Knights fall to River
Seeing tough competition at the other end of the court in the majority of their games this season, the Tyler Consolidated Lady Knights continue to work on their game while solidifying roles on the team.
With each game played, the youthful Knights are gaining experience and honing their fundamental skills. Coached by Cathy Boggs and Benny Thomas, the Lady Knights saw competition twice last week.On Jan. 21 the Ladies in Silver and Black traveled to Ohio for a game with the Lady Pilots of River. The Pilots stepped up quickly to dominate the game with sure shooters not missing many chances at the net, taking the win, 76-40.
Freshman Amanda Reynolds led all Silver Knight scorers in the game, putting 10 points on the scoreboard, bringing down three rebounds and being credited with one steal. Vanessa Templeton totaled nine points in the effort, one rebound, one assist.
Kara Dalrymple added four points and had three rebounds; Ariel Fish, four points, three assists, three steals, one block; Breanna Yeater, four points, one rebound; Sydney Yoho, four points, three rebounds, three assists, one block; Katelyn Gogan, three points, four rebounds, one assist, one steal, one block; Kylie Martin, two points, one rebound, two assists; and Madison West hauled in two rebounds and had one assist.
In back-to-back competition with the same team, the Lady Knights played host to the Lady Pilots on Jan. 22, but still felt the sting of the loss, 66-43.
In a better effort than the previous night, the Consolidated team pulled together to defend River’s main shooters. But River led the game 37-22 at the half, and never looked back in the win.
Templeton scored 15 points for the Lady Knights and brought down four rebounds. She was also credited with two assists and two steals; Aleah Black, six points, six rebounds, one steal, two blocks; Gogan, five points, one rebound, two steals; Reynolds, five points, one rebound, one assist, one steal, one assist; Yeater, four points, four rebounds, one steal, one block; Martin, two points, one rebound, one steal, one block; Martha Shepherd, two points; West, two points, one rebound, one assist, one block; Yoho, two points, two rebounds, two assists, one block; Casteel, four rebounds; and Fish brought down two rebounds in the effort.
The Lady Knights are 2-14 at this point in the season.
The team was scheduled to play at Williamstown on Jan. 27 and will play at Ritchie County on Jan. 30.
On Feb. 5 the Tyler Consolidated Lady Knights will host Ravenswood and will then host the LKC placement game on Feb. 12.
Girls basketball Sectionals will begin the week of Feb. 20.
The Lady Knights will participate in the West Virginia Region I, Section II tournament the week of Feb. 20.
Section II teams will include Clay-Battelle, St. Marys, Paden City, Trinity, Tyler Consolidated and Valley. Section I teams will include: Bishop Donahue, Cameron, Hundred, Madonna, Magnolia and Wheeling Central.
The winner and runner-up at each sectional tournament will proceed to the Region I tournament.
