Lady Knights look to improve
The Tyler Consolidated High School Lady Knight basketball program continues to sharpen their skills against more experienced teams and programs, thus gaining their own experience which will benefit them in the long run. They are a young team, still looking for their identity, and continue to give their best effort on the court.
Last week, the Ladies in Silver faced off against two worthy opponents in the Lady Devils of Ravenswood and the Lady Tigers of Wirt County.
Against Ravenswood, the Silver fell behind 21-6 in the first period of play and were unable to catch up, taking the fall in the end, 66-29. The Knights were held to single digits in all except the last quarter, when they put 13 points on the scoreboard.
Sophomore shooter Kylie Martin scored nine points to lead all Knight scorers in the game. She also brought down three rebounds and was credited with one steal. Ariel Fish scored six points, had eight rebounds, and a steal; Amanda Reynolds, six points, one rebound, one assist, one block; Vanessa Templeton, six points, six rebounds, one steal; Sydney Yoho, two points, nine rebounds, one steal, one block; Aleah Black, two rebounds, one block; Hannah Casteel, one rebound, two steals; Kara Dalrymple, two rebounds; and Katelyn Gogan brought down three rebounds.
On Jan. 3 going up against Wirt County, the Lady Knights gave a good accounting of themselves, holding their own against the Tigers. A low scoring second period, however, set the tone of the game, giving the Silver and Black the loss, 50-40.
Sophomore Knight Vanessa Templeton double/doubled on the night in the game with 17 points and 16 rebounds. Reynolds scored eight points, brought down three rebounds, had one assist, two steals, and a block; Fish, seven points, five rebounds, four steals and two blocks; Martin, four points, one assist, two steal; Martha Shepherd, two points, one rebound; Gogan, two points, five rebounds, two assists, one block; Casteel, one steal; West, two rebounds, one assist, one block; Breanna Yeater, three rebounds; and Yoho was credited with two rebounds, two steals and one block.
The Lady Knights are scheduled to see playing time again on Jan. 7 vs. Wirt County at home; and on Jan. 9 when they host the St. Marys Blue Devils in what is sure to be a game to watch.
