Cheerleaders compete at Region I Regional
Tyler Consolidated and Paden City High School cheerleading squads each competed at the Region I, Class A, Regional Cheerleading Champion-ships at Parkersburg High School on Saturday. Ten teams competed for a first or second place finish at the competition in order to qualify for a berth in the state competition to be held in December.
The Silver Knights performed on the floor first of the ten teams, achieving an overall score of 330.35 with their excellent routine which earned them a second place overall finish and qualified the team for state competition. The championship went to the Cee-Bee cheerleaders of Clay-Battelle who scored 337.2, the highest Class A team score in the state that day.
Competing for Consolidated were: Brooke Keys, Sierra Mace, Laken Miller, Megan Wilson, Jayme Jeffers, Katlyn Seckman, Shayla Griffey, Lexi Jenkins, Devann McCoy, Brooklyn Pittman, Taylor Vandruff, Seminole Weekley, and Scotlynn Straight. Alternates are Tessa Boyd, Autumn Kunkel, and Megan Miller.

Paden City’s cheerleaders placed fifth overall at the event with a top notch routine. Cheering for the ‘Cats at the competition were: Kayla Hizer, Hannah Stanley, Tori Anderson, Mallory Estel, Ciera Yoho, Desiree Heasley, Abby Still, Madison Kelly, Kallie Arnett, Malayna Price, Katrina Heasley and Jenna Arnett.

The West Virginia High School State Cheerleading Competition will be held at the Charleston Civic Center on Dec. 13. Winners and runners-up from each Region in the state in all three classes will compete for the 2014 West Virginia Cheerleading Title at the Civic Center beginning at 10 a.m. Teams competing in the Class A state competition in Dec. are as follows (in order of performance): Clay Battelle, Tug Valley, Wirt County, Tucker County, Man, South Harrison, Williamstown and Tyler Consolidated.
