The Tyler Consolidated Middle School football team not only capped off the regular season with a perfect 8-0 season, but captured the LKC title as well, defeating Ritchie County on Oct. 29 at Knight Stadium in a big way, 33-8.

The Knights are coached by Bob Jones and assistant coach, D.J. Cunningham.

Scoring for the Knight in the championship game were: Griffin Phillips catching a 10 yard pass from Tyler West for the first TD; Noah Smith on a two yard run for a touchdown; Phillips pass to Hunter Forrester for the two point conversion; West rushed 15 yards in for six points; George Tennant ran 20 yards for the TD; Tennant, 79 yards on a touchdown run; and Cody Klages kicked the last extra point of the game.

“We played an outstanding football game in all areas offense, defense, and special teams,” said Cunningham. “They had a very good team and we shut them down other than the kickoff returned for a touchdown. It was a total team effort. The kids worked hard all year. They set their goals at the beginning of the season and each week they worked on improving to reach the goal.”

“This eight grade group quite possibly might have set the record for the most wins as a seventh and eighth grade football team. They leave our program with a record of 17-1 with two LKC Championships. That’s pretty darn good. I hope they will continue their success when they get to high school.”
