Ladies place at LKC
With season’s end at hand and whispers of post season play being bandied about, the Tyler Consolidated Lady Knight volleyball team have stepped up their game and level of competition in order to be ready for both.
Last week at Doddridge County the Ladies in Silver put themselves in competition for the title bout as they handed the Lady Devils of Calhoun County the loss, 24-26, 25-23, 25-15, and 25-16.
Though they gave up the first set, Tyler Consolidated battled hard to win the next three straight.
Statistics for the game included senior Bridget Matthews earning 15 points, getting 21 kills, eight blocks, and eight digs; Ariel Fish, 11 points (two aces), 18 kills, four blocks, 12 digs; Sydney Yoho, six kills, two blocks; Abbie Fletcher, four points, 10 kills, two blocks, three digs; Hannah Casteel, 14 points (three aces) four assists, one kill, three blocks, eight digs; Madison West, eight points, 13 digs; Lili Orr, six digs; Macy Long, two points, one ace.
Knight setter, Kerstyn Cline, totaled four points, 42 assists and seven digs.
In the championship game, the Ladies in Silver found themselves going up against a competitive Williamstown team, and coming away with the loss in four: 24-26, 25-15, 25-12 and 25-19.
In this game, Matthews scored five points, had 16 kills, eight blocks and four digs; Fish contributed eight points (one ace, six kills, eight blocks and 10 digs; Fletcher, five points, four digs; Casteel, four points, one ace, six digs; West, six points, 22 digs; Cline, one point, 28 assists, 12 digs; and Yoho had four kills, three blocks and a dig.
The Lady Knights celebrated the four seniors on the team last week during their last home game of the year, recognizing the dedication and support of both the players and their families in a traditional ceremony.
Currently standing at 35-10 on the season, the team saw action on Tuesday night with Philip Barbour, Morgantown and Upshur County.
Volleyball Sectionals are scheduled to begin soon, with dates and times to be released.
The Region I?Regional will be hosted by Tyler Consolidated on Nov. 8 with games beginning at 2 p.m.
