Wildcats defeat John Marshall
The Paden City Lady Wildcat volleyball team has been keeping the courts of the Ohio Valley busy for the last few weeks and will continue to do so, right up until Sectional play begins in two weeks.
The Lady ‘Cats traveled to Clay-Battelle on Oct. 14 to participate in a tri-match with the Lady Cee-Bee’s and Trinity Christian.
The ‘Cats took the fall at the hands of the Cee-Bee’s with scores of 24-26, 17-25 and 17-25.
Haley Hizer led the Wildcats in points from the serving line, scoring 14 (including four aces). Hizer also had nine kills and two blocks. Graeson Baker added 12 points; Aubrey Neff, 11 points (two aces), two kills and a dig. Abbi Still was credited with 14 kills in the match along with two blocks and dig.
Also on the 14th, the ‘Cats got the win over Trinity Christian in two straight sets, 25-21 and 25-12.
Baker served up 12 points from the line and had four kills for the Wildcats. Hizer added 12 points and had four kills; Taylor Cosper, six points, two kills; Katrina Heasley, six points; Neff, five points, one kill; and Cydney Blatt added five points and had five kills. Still powered eight kills over the net and had two blocks.
As part of a quad match at Tyler Consolidated on Oct. 16, the Lady Wildcats fell to Wood County Christian and Tyler, but won a nice match over John Marshall.
Against Wood County, the Green and White took the first set, 25-22, but came up short in the next two, 18-25 and 17-25.
Highlighting the scoreboard for Paden City were Hizer with 16 points from the serving line, nine kills and four blocks. Baker added 12 points and blocked four balls; Megan Pierce contributed 11 points, had four kills and two blocks; Neff, nine points, one kill, four digs; Cosper, seven points, a kill and three digs; and Still had 11 kills, 12 blocks and three digs.
At Tyler, Paden City took the win over the Lady Monarchs of John Marshall to the tune of 25-21, 21-25 and 25-20.
Pierce served up 16 points (three aces) for the Green team. She also contributed nine kills and five blocks; Cosper and Baker each served 14 points from the line; Still had nine kills and seven blocks; and Kelly Madison had six blocks.
The Lady Wildcats took the loss to Tyler Consolidated in two sets, 9-25 and 8-25.
Serving points for Paden City were Madison and Hizer with four; Baker, Neff and Still with two each and Pierce with one. Still had three kills and two blocks in the contest, and Cosper, three digs.
At this point in the season with less than a handful of games to get through, the Lady Wildcats stand at 24 wins and eight losses in the 2014 season. This week, Paden City played host to John Marshall on Oct. 21, will host Clay-Battelle and St Marys on Oct. 23 and on Oct. 28 the team will welcome Williamstown and Magnolia to Bob Burton Gymnasium.
The team will host the Mason Dixon Championships on Nov. 1 at 10 a.m. in preparation for Sectionals which begin on Nov. 11 at Hundred.
