The 2014 regular season came to an end for the Tyler Consolidated Lady Knight soccer team on Saturday, as the team traveled to Oak Glen. Facing the Lady Golden Bears for the second time this season, the Ladies in Silver made a much better showing, but still took the loss, 1-0.

“We faced off with this team in our first game of the season, and they beat us 2-1,” said head coach of the Lady Knights, Matt Kinnard. “On Saturday, we played right with them, played up to our potential and played 79 and-a-half minutes of scoreless soccer before they put one in the net to get the win.”

“We’ve wanted them to continue to improve throughout the season, and that’s exactly what they did. We can’t ask much more of them than that.”

“Oak Glen was the runner-up to the champion in the OVAC Class AAAA girls soccer tournament, and we held them to one point. Our girls did a good job. We made passes, communicated and have improved so much since the beginning of the year.”

The Lady Knights took five shots on goal in the game and goal keeper, Vanessa Templeton, had seven saves on the day.

Following the varsity game, the Knights and Bears were able to get a junior varsity in, in which the Consolidated team took the win, 1-0, with Whitney Rose scoring the winning goal.

The Lady Knights began Sectional play on Tuesday at East West Stadium in Fairmont against Fairmont Sr. The winner of this game will play on Oct. 23 in the semi-final game vs. Trinity Christian, with Sectional Championships to be held on Saturday.
