Knights take 3rd at Fall Brawl
The Lady Knight volleyball team at Tyler Consolidated is peaking at just the right time in their season and have seen a lot of competition in just a couple of months time.
The Lady Knights finished in third place of 12 teams participating in the “Fall Brawl” Tournament in Parkersburg on Oct. 8. The Silver Knights were the only single A team to qualify for the seeded tournament out of Pool Play.
In pool play, the Silver and Black defeated John Marshall 25-28, 25-8. Kerstyn Cline had eight points (five aces) in the game, 18 assists and three digs; Ariel Fish had nine points, five kills and six digs; Abbie Fletcher, eight points, 11 kills; Hannah Casteel eight point, five assists, a block and six digs; and Bridget Matthews had eight kills a block and eight digs.
The team handed the loss to East Fairmont in two sets, 25-5 and 25-19 in pool play. Matthews served up eight points and had 10 kills; Fish, 10 points (four aces), eight kills; Cline, 15 points (five aces), 16 assists, four digs; and Lilli Orr had eight digs.
Tyler Consolidated took the loss to Parkersburg High, 25-12 and 25-13, to advance as a number four seed to the bracketed tournament. Once there, the Silver took the win over class AA Oak Glen in two straight sets, 25-12, 25-20, to move on to the semi-finals, where they once again faced the Parkersburg High Big Reds. In the game with Oak Glen, Fish scored nine points, had six kills, a block and nine digs; Cline, six points (three aces), 23 assists, nine digs; Matthews, four points, 12 kills, a block and three digs; Sydney Yoho had seven kills; Fletcher, five points, seven kills and two digs. Ladies in Silver and Black fell to the Big Reds in two straight sets, 25-26, 25-25, to finish in third place overall at the tournament.
Earlier in the week the Knights swept a home quad match by defeating Paden City, John Marshall, and Wood County Christian in straight sets.
Versus the Lady Wildcats, the Knights took the match 25-9 and 25-8. Fletcher put 12 points on the scoreboard and had five kills; Fish added 11 points, four kills and a block; Courtney Hoder scored five and had a dig; and Matthews was credited with eight kills and two blocks.
Against John Marshall, Consolidated took the win 25-7 and 25-12. Fletcher and Madison West each scored nine points apiece with West getting eight digs and Fletcher four digs and five kills. Matthews scored eight points, had three kills a block and two digs; and Yoho and Fish both recorded four kills each.
The team handed the loss to Wood County Christian 25-18 and 25-14 with Fish leading the scorers with seven points. She also had six blocks, two digs and three kills; West had 13 digs in the game, three points; Matthews had eight kills, two blocks, five digs and six points;
By going 11-1 in LKC play, Tyler Consolidated qualified as a number one seed in the West Division of the LKC and will play in the Night of Champions on Oct. 25 at Doddridge.
The Lady Knight overall season record is 31 – 9.
