Netters win two of three at home

It was an exciting night of hard hitting volleyball at Tyler Consolidated on Oct. 2 as the Lady Knights hosted Parkersburg South, Philip Barbour, and Parkersburg High School in a quad. The ladies wearing Silver and Black played three excellent games, taking wins in two, and falling to a strong opponent in the other.

Against South, Tyler Consolidated took the win in two sets, 25-18 and 25-8.

Ariel Fish worked her magic at the serving line, putting 16 points (two aces) on the scoreboard. She also contributed six digs, had four blocks and five kills in the game. Madison West served eight points (one ace), and had seven digs; Abbie Fletcher, five points (one ace), one dig, seven kills; Hannah Casteel, four points (two aces), five digs, three blocks, one kill and three assists; Bridget Matthews, three points (one ace), two digs, five blocks and six kills; Kerstyn Cline, one point, seven digs, 18 assists and 37 sets; Sydney Yoho, two kills, two blocks; Lilli Orr, three digs; and Macy Long, two digs.

It took the Lady Knights two sets to defeat Philip Barbour, 25-17 and 25-20.

Matthews stepped up to lead all Knight scorers in this game, serving 19 points (two aces), adding four digs and 12 kills to boot.Casteel served eight points, had six digs and a kill; Fletcher, five points, three digs, three kills; Cline, four points, four digs, two blocks, 26 assists and 54 good sets; Fish, one point, eight digs, three blocks and three kills; West, one point, six digs; Joralda rice, one point, one dig, one kill; Orr, one dig; and Yoho had eight kills, one block.

Playing against a solid Parkersburg team, the Lady Knights gave a good effort, but were outlasted by the Big Reds in two sets, 25-21 and 25-12.

Fletcher led the way at the serving line for the home team, serving up nine points. She also had five kills, one block and a dig. Cline served four points, had six digs, 12 assists and 42 sets; Matthews, four points (two aces), three digs, two blocks and two kills; Fish, two aces, three digs, seven kills; Casteel, one point, one dig; West, eight digs; and Yoho had one dig, two blocks and one kill.

The Lady Knights stand with a 21-4 season record at this point and are ranked fourth in the OVAC. The team played in the OVAC tournament on Oct. 7 at Shenendoah and depending on the outcome of this game, will play again this weekend..

The JV team will host Ritchie County at home on Oct. 9 at 5 p.m. The varsity Ladies will see regular season action again on Oct. 18 at the Parkersburg South tournament in Parkersburg.
