Lady Wildcat VB team wins five of six games

Paden City’s varsity volleyball team played six games last week, getting the win all but one time.

On Sept. 29 at home the Lady Wildcats took the win over the Lady Dragons of Cameron in two sets, 25-19 and 25-7.

Haley Hizer scored 11 points (one ace) from the serving line for PC, also blocking twice, getting five kills and a dig. Megan Pierce had nine points (four aces) two kills and two digs; Cydney Blatt, eight points, three kills and a dig; Taylor Cosper, seven points (three aces), one dig; Aubrey Neff, seven points (one ace), one kill; Graeson Baker, six points (one ace), eight kills, one dig; Kallie Arnett, two kills; and Kelly Madison had one kill in the game.

Against River, the ‘Cats put up a battle worthy of their names, but took the loss to the Lady Pilots, 19-25 and 20-25.

Baker served the most points for the ‘Cats with nine. She also set the ball 24 times, had five assists, four blocks and six digs. Hizer scored eight points (one ace) and had eight kills; Cosper, eight points, four digs; Neff, seven points, one kill, 51 sets, 12 assists and two blocks; Still had four points, eight kills, two blocks and four digs; Pierce, two points, three kills, six blocks, four digs; and Blatt, three kills and four blocks.

On Sept. 30 versus Wheeling Central, the Lady ‘Cats took little time in defeating the Lady Maroon Knights, 25-14 and 25-8.

Cosper led Paden City in putting points on the scoreboard with 12 (five aces). She also contributed one kill and seven digs in the win. Pierce scored 11 points (one ace), five kills, four blocks, two digs; Hizer, 11 points (one ace), nine kills; Madison, seven points (one ace); Baker, five points (one ace) two kills, five assists, 17 sets, two blocks and three digs; Still, two points, eight kills, four blocks, one dig; Arnett, one kill; and Blatt had two kills.

The Lady ‘Cats also handed the defeat to Bishop Donahue to the tune of 25-15 and 25-19.

Baker led the scoring charge with 14 (one ace). She also had three kills, six assists, 19 sets and five digs; Neff, 13 points, two kills, two assists, 83 sets; Still, eight points (one ace), 14 kills, four blocks, one dig; Hizer, seven points, 10 kills; Pierce, five points, four kills, four blocks, one dig; Cosper, three points, three digs; Middleton, two digs; Arnett, one kill, one dig; and Blatt, one kill.

On Oct. 2 the ‘Cats took wins over both Notre Dame and Hundred. Against Notre Dame, Paden City took the easy win, 25-4 and 25-3.

Points were scored by Madison, 14; Hizer, 13; Baker, eight; Neff, seven; Pierce, four; Cosper, two; and Arnett, one.

Taking on Hundred, the Wildcats got the win 25-10 and 26-24.

Statistics for the game include: Cosper scoring 12 points and getting five digs; Baker, nine points, one kill, two blocks, two digs; Still, eight points, eight kills, two blocks, three digs; Hizer, eight points, seen kills, two blocks, one dig; Pierce, seven points, one kill; Neff, seven points, 11 assists, 29 sets, one dig; Middleton, two digs; Madison, one dig; and Blatt, one kill and one dig.

At about the mid point of the season, the Wildcats win/loss record now stands at 20-3.

The team, ranked first in the OVAC in the Class A division, were scheduled to play against 4th ranked Madonna at home on Tuesday. The win/loss of the game will determine the place and opponent of the the next game in the tournament.

The Lady Wilcats will travel to River on Oct. 9.
