Netters face off with Shenandoah
The Lady Knight varsity and junior varsity volleyball teams at Tyler Consolidated are continuing their seasons on a high note, with the varsity standing at an 11-2 win/loss record and the JV team, 12-0 at this point of the season.
The teams faced off with nationally ranked Shenan-doah on Sept. 20 at home with the varsity taking the loss in three sets and the JV coming out on top in two of three.
The varsity team faced defeat for only the second time this season, falling to their visitors 25-15, 25-22, and 25-20.
Senior Bridget Matthews led the Ladies in Silver and Black with seven points from the serving line, two digs, two blocks, and 10 kills. Ariel Fish scored six, had eight kills, five blocks, and 10 digs in the game; Hannah Casteel, six points (two aces), 11 digs and a block; Madison West scored three and had 17 digs; Lilli Orr was credited with three digs; Sydney Yoho had four kills and a block; Abbie Fletcher had seven kills, two blocks, and two digs; and senior Kerstyn Cline set the ball 62 times in the contest, had 23 assists, nine digs, and served up three points for the home team.
In the junior varsity match-up, the young Lady Knights took the overall win after dropping the first set and coming back to secure the win by taking the next two, 19-25, 25-20, and 25-17. Joralda Rice scored 11 points in the effort; Macy Long added 10 points; Courtney Hoder, six; and Julianna Miller added four (one ace).
Head coach of the team, Richard Summers, achieved his 400th win a week ago when the Consolidated team defeated St. Marys. With his win record now standing at 405 career coaching wins, Summers and his team will be looking to add to that number this week as they take on Spring Valley and Riverside on Tuesday; Wirt and Ravenswood on Sept. 25; and host John Marshall and Weir on Saturday at 10 a.m.
