Lady Wildcat vb team racks up 11 wins in season
The 2014 volleyball season is plugging right along and the varsity volleyball team at Paden City High School is quietly, but surely, racking up the wins as they go.
On the road, the Lady Wildcat volleyball team faced off with Bishop Donahue and Madonna on Sept. 9. Paden City was on their game, taking both wins in three sets.
Against the Lady Bishops, the ‘Cats fell in the first set, 17-25, but came back to take the overall win in the next two, 25-22 and 25-22.
Freshman Aubrey Neff had 125 sets in the game and 26 assists; senior Graeson Baker set the ball 26 times and had three assists. At the serving line, Baker put 17 points on the scoreboard and defensively, she had two blocks and 18 digs. Haley Hizer scored 15 points (four aces) and had 12 kills; Neff scored 13 points (three aces); Taylor Cosper scored seven, had two kills and 27 digs; Megan Pierce, eight points (two aces), four kills, four blocks, and a dig; Abbi Still, seven points, seven kills, six digs; Cydney Blatt, seven kills, two blocks, and a dig; Dezirae Middleton, four digs; and Kallie Arnett was credited with one kill and one dig.
Paden City defeated Madonna 25-12, 20-25 and 25-14, led by Abbi Still at the serving line with 14 points and 12 kills and defensively, two blocks and three digs. Baker added 13 points (three aces), one kill, 20 sets, three assists, two blocks and 14 digs; Neff added 13 points (one ace), two kills, 90 good sets, and 24 assists; Hizer, 12 points (three aces), seven kills, two blocks and two digs; Cosper, nine points (one ace), one kill, 16 digs; Pierce, eight points, one kill, three digs; Middleton, one dig; Arnett, one kill, four blocks, one dig; and Blatt, nine kills, two digs.
At Beallsville, Ohio, on Sept. 11 the Lady ‘Cats took the win in three straight sets, 25-12, 25-10, and 25-12.
Pierce was on fire at the serving line in the game, totaling 18 points (one ace) on the day. She had two kills and four blocks. Cosper added 17 points (four aces), had one kill and two digs in the game; Baker, 15 points (two aces), two kills, 16 sets, seven assists, two blocks and a dig; Hizer contributed 10 points, 13 kills; Neff, 10 points (one ace), one kill, 58 sets, 18 assists, six digs; Still, four points, 11 kills, eight blocks and a dig; Blatt added one point, had 11 kills, four blocks and two digs; Middleton had one dig; and Arnett had four kills.
The Lady ‘Cats played host to Bridgeport at Bob Burton Gymnasium on Sept. 15, taking three of four sets to get the win, 25-19, 25-22, 24-26, and 25-14.
Haley Hizer was solid at the serving line, putting 21 points (three aces) on Paden City’s side of the scoreboard in the game. She also knocked out 20 kills, had two blocks, and two digs. Graeson Baker also worked her magic at the line, serving up 18 points (one ace), had two kills, 35 sets, eight assists, two blocks, and 10 digs in the win. Cosper scored 15 points (two aces), had five kills and 16 digs; Pierce, 15 points (four aces), seven kills, six blocks; Still, 12 points (two aces), 19 kills, four blocks, five digs; Neff, 10 points (one ace), two kills, 155 sets, 42 assists and four digs; Blatt, eight points, four kills, two blocks and six digs; Middleton had two kills, four digs; Arnett, four kills, one dig.
At Cameron on Sept. 16 Paden City set the Dragons with two quick sets, 25-14 and 25-15.
Cosper and Neff each scored 10 points in the win with Cosper adding two kills to the mix and Neff setting the ball 27 times. Hizer scored nine points (two aces) and had two kills; Still, eight points (three aces), five kills, six blocks, and one dig; Blatt, seven points, two kills, and a dig; Baker, six points, one kill, four digs; Pierce, one kill; Arnett, three kills, one dig; Kelly Madison, one dig.
The ‘Cats gained a similar win in two sets over Morgantown Trinity. Baker scored 15 points (three aces) from the line, had one kill and dig to lead the Green and White. Still added nine points, had eight kills and three digs; Hizer, eight points, four kills; Neff, nine points (one ace), 65 good sets, 18 assists and one dig; Pierce, five points (one ace), three kills; Cosper, four points, one kill, five digs; Middleton, one dig; and Blatt, had three kills.
The team made very short work of Clarksburg Notre Dame on Sept. 18, defeating the Irish 25-5 and 25-4.
Hizer scored 12 points (one ace); Pierce, 13 (one ace); Baker, 10 (four aces); Jenna Arnett, five points (two aces); Kameron McClain, two points; Neff, three points; and Still added one point in the win.
The Lady Wildcats were scheduled to play at Bridgeport on Sept. 22 and will see action at home on Sept. 29 when they host Cameron and River.
