PC Wildcats get first win of 2014 season, 28-13
The Wildcats of Paden City hit the road for the second time this season in order to pocket their first win of 2014. The ‘Cats handed the loss to the Beallsville Blue Devils, 28-13 on Friday at Beallsville.
“We played pretty well for the most part,” said Paden City Head Coach Brent Croasmun. “We made a few mistakes which helped them keep their drives alive, but all in all, we got the job done.”
Paden City relied heavily on the run in the game, keeping Beallsville at bay with the scrambling of sophomore quarterback Hayden Hizer, in for senior Zach Heasley who missed the game due to injury.
“We’re sure missing Heasley at the QB position, but Hizer saved many a play by scrambling left and right and not going into panic mode,” Croasmun said.
Senior Brandon Cross was on his game in this one as he led the rushing attack for the Green and White with 22 carries for 163 yards and four touchdowns in the game.
Deven Price rushed twice for 32 yards and Kane Pyles got two positive yards from three carries.
Quarterback Hizer completed three of eight passes for 43 yards.
Luke Cooper caught one pass for 38 yards and Craig Allen caught one pass for seven yards.
Logan Carroll was the top defensive man for the ‘Cats against Beallsville, credited with 11 tackles and one sack of the Beallsville quarterback.
Spencer Billings had eight tackles and one sack; Cooper had seven tackles and an interception; Hizer, five tackles; Cross had one interception; Price, two interceptions; and Pyles sacked the quarterback once.
Still on the road this week, Paden City will travel to Bridgeport, Ohio to take on the Bulldogs on Friday in a battle of the ‘Cats and ‘Dogs.
The Wildcats will play their first home game on Sept. 26 when they play host to Mike Flannery and the River Pilots at Berger Field.
