Knights fall to Williamstown, 30-7
In their traditional home opener with the Williamstown Yellow Jackets, the Tyler Consolidated Silver Knights gave all they had, but fell to the strong class A Jackets 30-7 when all was said and done.
“It was a good football game in the first half,” said Knight head coach Ryan Walton. “But after the half-time break, they let loose and we just couldn’t get it together.”
“Our kids played hard. They played very hard and I think learned a lot in this game. We just can’t play half a game, we’ve got to give it our all every time out. We made more mistakes than we should have which we will definitely be working on in practice this week.”
The Silver Knight defense showed their stuff in the first two periods of the game, shutting down Williamstown’s options, forcing them to go to the air several times.
The two teams played to a 0-0 end of an exciting first quarter with Knight fans on their feet for the majority of the time. In the second period of play Williamstown made good on a touchdown run and followed it up with an extra point kick to take the lead in the game, 7-0. Before the half ended, Knight quarterback, Jordan Baker, ran 59 yards for a home town touchdown. Federico Perez followed with the extra point kick, knotting the score at 7-7 going into the half-time break.
In the second half, the story was all Yellow Jackets, as the Maroon steadily added to the score to finish the game at 30-7 in their favor.
“They did things we expected them to do, and we handled it pretty good in the first half,” coach Walton said. “The second half was a different story. We made some very costly errors and let it get away from us.”
