Knights and ‘Cats begin post-season play
The WV High School baseball season ended last week with regular play with both the Paden City Wildcats and Tyler Consolidated Silver Knights finishing up and making preparations for post season play. The teams have struggled to get all their regularly scheduled games in this year, with many postponed or cancelled because of inclement weather (the Wildcats have one game of the regular season left to play). The Knights and ‘Cats both begin Sectional tournament play this week.The Paden City High School baseball team suffered a tough week last week with three losses in three games.
On May 5 the team played in St. Marys against the Blue Devils, taking the heavy handed loss 12-0.
Sophomore Luke Cooper took the loss on the mound for the Green and White, walking one batter and striking out one. Isaac Hall came on in relief, throwing three strike outs and two walks.
Craig Allen and Levi Meadows got the only hits for the ‘Cats in the game with two singles.
The ‘Cats found themselves in New Martinsville on May 6, going up against the Blue Eagles in a close game which ended with the Eagles taking the 4-3 win.
Kyle Postlethwaite worked the first position for the Green for 5 and 2/3 innings, walking two batters. Hayden Hizer took over, throwing six strike outs and walking two.
At the plate, Zach Heasley doubled; Cooper and Kennedy Cain each singled; and Andrew Dennis hit a pinch hit double in the sixth to score two runs which gave the ‘Cats the lead in game for a short while.
At Clay-Battelle on May 9 Paden City felt the sting of loss for the third time in the week, falling 7-0 to the Cee-Bees.
Hall took the loss on the mound for Paden City, issuing one strike out and two walks. Meadows came on in relief, walking four and striking out two. The only hit in the game came off the bat of Allen.
The Wildcats have one more game left on their schedule which will be on May 13 in Paden City when the team will host the River Pilots at 4:30 p.m.
The ‘Cats will travel to New Martinsville on Thursday to begin play in the double elimination Sectional tournament against Cameron and Magnolia. Paden City will take on Cameron at 5:30 p.m.
The Silver Knights began their Sectional tournament on Tuesday in St. Marys. The Knights were to take on Valley in the first game. Results will be in next week’s Tyler Star News.
