Softball teams begin Sectionals
West Virginia High School Softball Sectionals began this week with the Lady Wildcats of Paden City and Lady Knights of Tyler Consolidated heading into the first round of their individual Sectional tournaments.
Silencing the doubters last week, the Paden City Lady Wildcat softball team, coached by Jeanne Fox, not only competed in the OVAC tournament, but finished as runners-up to the champions.
The Lady Wildcats were sitting pretty on Saturday, headed to the Class A OVAC Championship game in Wheeling, right where they wanted to be, when Bellaire St. John had other ideas.
The Lady Irish played stubbornly, holding the ‘Cats scoreless until the fifth inning, when Paden City scored their only run of the game, eventually taking the loss 5-1.
The Lady Wildcats begin Sectional play this week and look to be poised to perhaps see another championship game in their near future.
The Lady Knights finished their season last week with a loss to Frontier.
The Tyler Consolidated team, under the direction of head coach Sam Livingston, began their Sectional Tournament on Monday in St. Marys, taking a nice win over Valley in the first round.
The Ladies in Silver saw action again on Tuesday going up against St. Marys.
Results of games will be in next week’s Tyler Star News.
