Ladies top off regular season play

The West Virginia High School 2014 girls softball regular season will end this week with Sectional play beginning next week. Both Paden City and Tyler Consolidated have a few more games ahead of them, but have been busy in the past week or two fulfilling their already packed commitments. Both teams look to peak in the post season and look toward tournament play.
Lady Knights
Standing with an 8-15 win/loss record at this point of the season, the Lady Knight varsity softball team at Tyler Consolidated is looking to better that record here in the last week of the regular season. Playing six games last week, the Ladies in Silver pulled off two wins.
On April 18 the team traveled to Valley to take on the Lumber Jills, coming home with the 9-1 win. Freshman Vanessa Templeton worked the circle for the Silver, striking out nine batters.
Offensively, Lilli Orr singled on the day for Tyler Consolidated; Madison West hit two singles and Esmee Coster collected an RBI.

The Lady Knights were shut out by the Lady Tigers of Wirt County on April 22, 8-0.
Tyler Consolidated faced the 9-5 loss to Paden City on April 23. West walked two and struck out two batters. Senior Shandi Long doubled and fellow senior Alex Bubenchik tripled and hit a pair of singles.
April 24 saw the Lady Knights playing host to the Lady Crusaders of Parkersburg Catholic, taking the 13-0 win in a big way. Templeton handled the pitching duties, throwing three Ks to sit batters down. Megan Miller came on to strike out one.
Shandi Long doubled and singled for the Silver.
The Knight Ladies traveled to Roane County on April 26, only to fall to the Lady Raiders at both ends of a double header, 8-0 and 8-5.
In the first game, West walked seven batters and struck out one in the contest. Tiffany Smith singled; Bubenchik had two hits and Rhianna Long went 1/1 at the plate.
Game two saw Devinn Moore walk two batters and strike out five while in control of the circle.
Offensively, Bubenchik collected three RBIs and Rhianna Long, two RBIs.
The Lady Knights will see action on April 30 at Doddridge and will begin Sectionals on May 5 in St. Marys.
Lady Wildcats
The Lady Wildcats find themselves with a 9-12 win/loss record at this point of the season and will likely add to their win column with games yet to be played this week.
Playing at Tyler Consolidated on April 23, Paden City gave up 12 hits, but managed to take the 9-5 win.
Taylor Cosper pitched four and 2/3 innings, striking out five. Amber Neff came on in relief, striking out two and walking one.
At the plate, Graeson Baker hit one single and three doubles to get one RBI; Neff singled twice for an RBI; Cosper singled and doubled for one RBI; and Kayla Hizer hit two singles.
At Clay-Battelle on April 24, the Lady ‘Cats took the win over Clay-Battelle 15-2. The Ladies in Green and White scored their 15 runs on six hits and played error free.
Neff handled the pitching duties for the visitors, striking out three and walking one.
Baker singled and tripled in the game, collecting four RBI’s; Cosper tripled; Abby Still, singled and tripled for one RBI; and Shelby Gatian singled to score a run.
At press time it was unsure when the Lady ‘Cats will play again, but Region I Softball Sectionals begin on Monday.
