Ladies win over Cadets and Jills

The Lady Knights have been keeping themselves buy lately, getting their games in in-between the rain drops.

The team played host to the Lady Tigers of Wirt County on March 24, taking the loss in a close game, 4-1. One end of the “dynamic duo” Moore sisters, Jasmine, worked the circle for the Silver, going four innings walking two and giving up seven hits. Freshman Vanessa Templeton took over going the last three innings, striking out one, walking one and giving up two hits.

On March 25 Tyler Consolidated got their first win of the season, handing the defeat to the Lady Cadets, 8-2. Devinn Moore got the win as the pitcher, walking one, striking out three batters and giving up five hits in the effort.

At the plate, Alex Bubenchik went 2-4 on the day with a single and a double; Madison West, Shandi Long and Lilli Orr offered up doubles for the home team on the day; and Megan Carpenter got on base twice with singles.

The Lady Rebels of Ritchie County traveled to Tyler County on March 27 to take on the Silver and Black, returning home with the win, 18-0. Templeton went all three innings for the Knights, striking out two, walking five and giving up seven hits. Tiffany Smith had the only hit attributed to the Silver on the day, singling.

In the nightcap of the two-game-day, the Consolidated Ladies handed the loss to Valley, shutting out the Lumber Jills in three quick innings, 10-0.

Freshman Madison West worked the number one position for the Silver and Black, turning in a fine effort with eight strike outs, three walks and giving up one hit.

Offensively, Bubenchik singled twice while Jasmine Moore, Tiffany Smith and Orr each singled in the win.

The Lady Knights hosted Calhoun County in a double header on March 28, winning both games.

In the first game, Devinn Moore struck out six batters, walked one and gave up three hits and Bubenchik highlighted the offensive stats with two doubles for two RBI’s and Tiffany Smith singled twice and doubled.

The Knights took their second win of the day, 8-5 over the Red Devils in the seven inning game. Jasmine Moore went five innings in the circle, striking out six batters, walking one and giving up six hits. West pitched two innings, walking three and giving up two hits.

Jasmine Moore came through with three nice singles in the game, while Tiffany Smith hit two singles and Bubenchik doubled.

On March 31 the Silver Ladies hosted St. Marys and played a hard fought battle in taking the loss, 13-8.

West worked the circle for four and 2/3 innings, issuing three strike outs and four walks. Templeton took a turn at the pitchers slot for two and 1/3 innings, striking out two.

West almost hit for the cycle on the day, slamming a single, double and triple in the effort. Jasmine Moore placed two singles and Templeton offered up a single for the home team.

Tyler Consolidated fell to Paden City on Saturday in three, 10-0.

The Lady Knight 2014 roster includes: Shandi Long, Bailey Smith, Devinn Moore, Jasmine Moore, Alex Bubenchik, Esmee Coster, Megan Carpenter, Lilli Orr, Tiffany Smith, Michele Doyle, Baylee Roberts, Rhianna Long, Madison West, Kylie Martin, Bailee Longwell, Vanessa Templeton, Megan Miller, Maria Long, Payden Clem, Hannah Ankrom, Kali Mead and Lexis Smith.

Tyler Consolidated is scheduled to play at home vs. South Harrison on Thursday and will travel to Ravenswood on April 12.
