Both Tyler Consolidated and Paden City’s boys basketball teams finished their 2014 regular seasons last week and and began post season play. The Silver Knights played on Saturday, while the Wildcats began their Sectional appearances on Tuesday.

Tyler Consolidated saw the end come to their season on March 1 as they fell in the first round of the Sectional tournament to St. Marys at Paden City, 70-48.

The Silver Knights started out in slow motion in the beginning of the game, falling behind 16-9, but had some pep in their step in the second and played a nice eight minutes.

Behind at the half, 31-22, the Knights kept up their steady, sure pace in the third and made some headway under the basket.

Unfortunately, the Blue Devils put together a strong fourth to take the win, 70-48, and put an end to the Silver Knight season.

Jace Reed led all Knight scorers in the game with 13 points. Cole Kocher scored 12; Dylan Reynolds added 10; Kordell Stewart had seven points; and Swen Scheidemantel chipped in six.

The Silver Knights finished the season with six wins and will lose nine seniors to graduation in May.

While most likely to be considered a “rebuilding” year, the Knights actually look like they may be sitting pretty with several young players returning with experience.

Paden City began their post-season trek on Tuesday night as they faced their first Sectional opponent, Morgantown Trinity. The Wildcats go into the tournament seeded second overall.

(Editors note: This game was played after press time, therefore statistics will be in next week’s Tyler Star News.)
