The 2014 season is all but over for both the Paden City Lady Wildcats and Tyler Consolidated Lady Knights with the West Virginia High School Girls Basketball Sectionals scheduled for later this week. Both teams hope to host senior night festivities this week and wrap up the tail end of their seasons before looking to post-season play, if Mother Nature will allow.
Lady Wildcats
The Lady Wildcats of Paden City were able to get two games in last week, getting one win of the two.
PC kept Hundred winless on Feb. 13 as they handed the Lady Hornets the 59-32 loss with an outstanding performance by senior, Myah Charkawi.
Charkawi set a new girls’ game high scoring record at Paden City by putting 38 points on the scoreboard for the Green and White, a record held since the late 1980’s by her own mother, Cathy (Mikes) Boggs who set the record at 37.

Paden City senior, Myah Charkawi, set a new school one-game, high point, scoring record as she scored 38 points against the Lady Hornets of Hundred last week. Charkawi breaks the previous record of 37 points, set by her mother, Cathy (Mikes) Boggs.
Charkawi and the Lady ‘Cats put together a 20 points second period and 17 point last stanza to take the overwhelming win from the Lady Hornets.
Sophomore Cydney Blatt added six points to the mix, with 10 rebounds and three blocks; Hannah Stanley scored four points, had five rebounds and a steal; Katie Shreves had three points, three rebounds and two steals; Kayla Barker, four points, one steal; Taylor Cosper had two points, one rebound, three steals and a block; Kayla Hizer, two points, two rebounds, one assist, one steal and two blocks; and Darien Ritchie had four rebounds in the game.
Morgantown Trinity scored 29 points in the first period of play on Feb. 11 to get the jump on the lead over the Lady Wildcats and went on to take the win in a big way, 73-35, in an earlier game in the week.
Charkawi and Blatt led the ‘Cats in points on the scoreboard with each totaling 10 apiece. Blatt also contributed 10 rebounds, had one assist, two steals and a block in the game, while Charkawi brought down three rebounds and stole the ball once in the effort. Stanley scored six points, had three rebounds and a steal; Hizer, four points; Barker, two points, two rebounds, two steals; Cosper, two points, one rebound, two steals; and Shreves scored one point and had two rebounds.
Paden City is scheduled to play at Tyler Consolidated on Feb. 19.
Lady Knights
The Lady Knights took on the Lady Red Devils at Ravenswood in their only game last week, finding themselves in a tougher than usual contest, and coming out on the short end of the 61-60 score when all was said and done.
Having led throughout the majority of the game, the second half of the game proved to be brutal offensively for the Silver.
Only four Lady Knights were able to sink shots in the game: senior Sydney Reed led the team with 34 points; Sophie Kinnard added 15; Vanessa Templeton scored nine; and Hillary Casteel dropped in two points.
Tyler Consolidated is scheduled to host Paden City on Feb. 19 with senior night ceremonies to be held immediately preceding the game.
