Knight wrestlers look ahead to post-season
The wrestlers at Tyler Consolidated headed to Ritchie County early on Saturday morning to participate in the 51st Little Kanawha Conference Championships held at Ritchie County High School.
Wrestlers representing 13 teams participated at the meet with the Calhoun County team placing first overall with 219 points. Roane County placed second with 199, followed by Williamstown with 154.50, and Clay County scoring 114.50. The Silver Knight team tied for 11th overall.
“I feel that lack of practice has really crushed our season,” said Knight Head Coach Chad Snider. “I hope we can get a couple good weeks in before the Regionals to bring us out of our slump.”
“This weather has really given an unfair advantage to schools that have different policies concerning practices being held when school is not in session. It is just sad that the kids have to be the ones to suffer. It is, what it is.”
“We are fortunate that everyone on the team has their health.”
The Silver Knights plan to host Senior night today as a quad with Ritchie, Doddridge, and Weirton Madonna with wrestling to start at 6 p.m. On Saturday the team will wrestle in a tournament at Magnolia.
Region 1 Regionals will be the following Friday and Saturday at the Armory in Fairmont.
Wrestlers will need to place in the top four at the Regional in order to qualify for state.
