Holidays and weather hinder boys schedules

Christmas and New Year holidays coupled with nasty, inclement weather of late is putting a stitch in the steps of local high school boys basketball teams doing their best to get in regularly scheduled games. Thanks to the not-so-promising weather forecast, the teams will continue to hit and miss with their schedules throughout the next few weeks. The most recent game information and statistics available follow:

Wildcats

The Paden City Wildcat varsity traveled to Valley on Dec. 27, returning home with the 62-51 win over the Lumberjacks.

Paden City plodded their way through the first period, allowing the Jacks to take the eight-point lead by the end of the first period and 10 points by half time. The break did the Green and White some good though as they came out quicker and more sure footed in the second half, dominating the game and taking the eventual win, 62-51.

PC shooting ace, junior Kennedy Cain, led all scorers in the game with 31 points. He also managed to collect seven rebounds, two assists, and five steals. Zach Heasley added 15 points, had seven rebounds, six assists, one steal, and two blocks; Luke Cooper, 11 points, seven rebounds, two blocks; Craig Allen, three points, one rebound, two assists, one steal; Hayden Hizer, two points, three rebounds, nine assists, one steal; and Deven Price contributed one assist.

The Wildcats were scheduled to play St. Johns on Jan. 3, but no information has been released for that game. If the weather cooperated, the team was to host Bishop Donahue on Jan. 7 and will host Hundred on Jan. 14

Silver Knights

Complete statistics were not available for the last few Tyler Consolidated contests as the Silver Knights continue to look for wins this season. The team recently met defeat at the hands of the Magnolia Blue Eagles in New Martinsville on Dec. 27, 93-34, and to the Yellow Jackets of Williamstown on Jan. 3, 72-46.

With two wins under their belts this season, the Knights will look to gain both experience and W’s in the win column as they host Ritchie County on Jan. 9 and have rescheduled Ravenswood (originally Jan. 7) for Jan. 10 at the Tyler Consolidated gym.
