Girls’ teams pocket nice wins in a week

West Virginia girls high school basketball season is well underway with both the Lady Knights of Tyler Consolidated and Lady Wildcats of Paden City putting together wins last week. The teams will take a slight holiday break and get back to solid basketball action after the New Year.

Lady Knights

The Tyler Consolidated Lady Knights put together two nice wins last week topping their opponents by more than 30 points in each win.

On Dec. 17 the Silver and Black traveled to Doddridge to take on the Lady Bulldogs, and had the game well in hand by half-time, eventually taking the win, 75-40.

Super shooting senior, Sydney Reed, topped the charts in the scoring department for all scorers in the game with 35. She also brought down four rebounds, had two assists and three steals. Fellow senior Sophie Kinnard scored 25 points and a season high 22 rebounds. She also was credited with five assists, three steals and 11 blocks; Sydney Yoho, four points, four rebounds; Hillary Casteel, four points, three rebounds, six assists, four steals; Vanessa Templeton, three points, one rebound; Ariel Fish, two points, two rebounds, one assist, one steal; Breanna Yeater, two points, two rebounds; Katelyn Gogan, two rebounds, three assists, one steal; Kylie Martin, one assist; and Hannah Casteel brought down one rebound.

Cydney Blatt

At Valley on Dec. 19 the Silver Ladies rolled over the Jill’s to the tune of 70-25.

Reed led all scorers in the game once again with 24 points. She also had two rebounds, eight assists and five steals; Kinnard added 15 points, 10 rebounds, one assist, six steals, two blocks; Hillary Casteel, 10 points, eight rebounds, one steal; Gogan, eight points, three rebounds, one assist, two steals; Madison West, four points, three assists; Yeater, four points, three rebounds; Martin, two points, one rebound; Fish, two points, four rebounds, two assists, one block; Yoho, four rebounds, one assist; and Hannah Casteel contributed four rebounds, one assist and stole the ball twice.

The Lady Knights will see action again on Dec. 28 at Magnolia. The team will play at Ravenswood on Jan. 2 and host Ritchie County on Jan. 3.

Lady Wildcats

The Lady Wildcats managed to pull ahead of the Lady Dragons of Cameron in the second half of the game at home on Dec. 16 to take the 45-41 win. The Lady ‘Cats got off to a good start and held their lead throughout the first half.

Sydney Reed

Cydney Blatt was the top point getter for the Green and White ‘Cats with 14 points. She also pulled down 10 rebounds and had two steals; Myah Charkawi scored 10 points and had five rebounds, two steals, one block; Hannah Stanley, seven points, one rebound.

Kayla Barker scored four points, had two rebounds, one assist and one steal; Taylor Cosper, five points, two rebounds, one assist; Darien Ritchie, four points; and Hannah Stanley, seven points, one rebound.

The Lady ‘Cats will play at Harman on Dec. 28 and travel to Valley for a game with the Lumber Jills on Jan. 2.
