Wildcats to host MD Conference tourney

The Lady Wildcat varsity volleyball team at Paden City High School played host to four teams last week, defeating two of the four.

The home standing Green and White hosted John Marshall and Tyler Consolidated in a tri-match at Bob Burton Gymnasium on Oct. 22, taking the loss to both teams on the chin.

In the match-up with John Marshall the Wildcats forced three sets, but wound up with the overall loss, 24-26, 25-12 and 17-25.

The lone senior on the team, Myah Charkawi led the team at the service line with 13 pints (two aces). She also contributed five digs and a kill in the effort. Haley Hizer scored 12 points (two aces), had one dig and eight kills.

Taylor Cosper, the setter for the ‘Cats had 63 sets and 15 assists, scored 11 points from the line including one ace, and had one dig low on the court; Cydney Blatt scored 11 points (three aces), had two digs, put up six blocks and had seven kills; Graeson Baker scored 11 (one ace), had five digs and six kills; Megan Pierce added eight points, four digs and had seven kills; Abbi Still chipped in with two digs over the net.

Against Tyler Consolidated on the same night, the Lady ‘Cats found themselves coming up just a bit short with the loss in two, 12-25 and 18-25.

Baker led all scorers for Paden City with nine. She also had two digs and two kills. Cosper scored six points (one ace), had one dig and one kill. She was also credited with 13 assists and 70 sets in the match.

Hizer added six points to the mix and had three kills; Charkawi, three points, two digs; Blatt, three points, one block and a kill; Pierce chipped in three points, one dig and had a powerful seven kills; Still, one dig; and Kallie Arnett contributed two kills.

Oct. 23 was a good night for the Lady ‘Cats who hosted St. Marys and Clay-Battelle at home, defeating both.

The Ladies in Green handed the Lady Blue Devils the loss in two, 25-13 and 25-24.

Cosper scored 11 points, two aces from the line, had two kills, 50 sets and 16 assists in the game. Charkawi added 11 points (three aces), had one dig and one kill in the contest; Hizer, nine points (two aces), eight kills; Baker, nine points (one ace), two digs and six kills; Blatt scored seven and had two kills; Pierce, three points (one ace), six blocks and two kills; and Arnett came through when it counted with two kills.

Against the Lady Cee-Bee’s, Paden City fared very well winning in two sets, 25-19 and 25-16.

It was Hizer leading the home team in scoring points in the game with 11, including two aces. She was also credited with one dig and seven strong kills. Cosper scored 10 points (one ace), had one dig and one kill, assisted 23 times and set the ball 64 times.

Blatt chipped in eight points, six kills; Charkawi, seven points (one ace), three digs and one kill; Pierce, scored seven (one ace), and had nine kills; Baker, four points, five digs and two kills; Madison Kelly contributed three points and had a dig; and Arnett jumped up for three kills over the net.

The Lady Wildcats played host to Magnolia and Williamstown on Tuesday.

The team will host the Mason Dixon Conference Tournament on Nov. 2 beginning at 10 a.m., as well as the Sectional tournament held at Bob Burton Gymnasium on Nov. 4 at 7:30 p.m.

Region I play will be held at Tyler Consolidated on Nov. 9.
