The Tyler Consolidated Lady Knight soccer team ended their season at the Sectional semi-finals last week in Morgantown, falling to Trinity Christian, 5-0.

“They were a good, athletic team, and we just never got in the flow during the game,” said head coach of the Ladies, Matt Kinnard.

“We should have been able to play right with this team, but we had some problems that we just couldn’t seem to overcome on the field.”

Trinity led the game 2-0 at the half, and found the back of the net three times in the second half to take the win. Goalkeepers for the Knights were kept busy at the net with senior keeper, Sophie Kinnard getting 12 saves in the contest and freshman, Vanessa Templeton, stopping six.

The Lady Knights played a full, tough schedule this year, managing to come away with one win.

“We play in a tough conference and a tough Section,” the coach said. “Nobody is giving wins away and our girls have worked hard in every game. We’ve improved 10-fold from the beginning of the season, and I look for that to continue next season.”

The team will lose six seniors to graduation, but with several returning players intending to pursue winter and indoor soccer in the off-season, Kinnard says next year looks to be a promising one for the Lady booters.

“We have some kids with natural talent and some kids who just want to improve their games and they’re taking on the responsibility to better themselves.

“Add to that a few new faces and a better understanding of the game as a whole, and I think we’ll be able to be pretty competitive next season.”
