Lady Knights take 2nd at LKC tourn.
The Tyler Consolidated High School volleyball team traveled to Roane County Saturday night to defend their LKC Championship, and finished the night as 2013 LKC Runners-Up.
Ranked as the number two seed in the North, the Lady Knights first had to face the Wirt County Tigers, the number one seed in the South, in the semi-final match. A hard-fought, intense match it was, but the Black and Silver prevailed in five sets with scores of 25-20, 13-25, 25-22, 21-25, 15-12.
Carpenter highlighted the game at the serving line for the Silver with 16 points (four aces) gained. She also had two digs, 12 blocks and 13 kills. West scored seven points and had 11 digs; Casteel, seven points (one ace), nine digs, 10 assists and 27 sets; Reed scored five, had five digs, four blocks and six kills; Fish, three points (one ace), eight digs, three blocks and five kills; Kerstyn Cline scored three points (two aces), had five digs, five assists and 24 sets; Yoho, three digs, five blocks; Matthews, four blocks and 12 kills; Fletcher, 12 digs; Abbie Fletcher blocked three at the net and had two kills; and Long scored a point, had four digs, 10 assists and 26 sets.
In the Championship match, the Knight Ladies faced Williamstown, who had beaten Clay County in four sets in the semi-finals. Unfortunately, the Jackets had more left in their tank, and the Knights fell in three straight with scores of 25-22, 25-18, 25-12.
The Lady Knights put together a nice team effort in the game with almost every team member contributing. Senior Hillary Casteel and freshman Madison West each served up seven points and one ace apiece. West also added six digs to her stats. Macy Long chipped in three points from the serving line, had three digs, 10 assists and 32 sets; Megan Carpenter scored two points, had five digs, three blocks and six kills in the effort; Sydney Reed was credited with two points, three digs, two blocks and seven kills; Ariel Fish, one point, ten digs and five kills; Bridget Mathews, one block, five kills; Sydney Yoho, three blocks, two kills; Carly Fletcher, 11 digs. Casteel also was credited with eight digs, 13 assists and 35 sets.
The Lady Silver Knight win/loss record now stands at 30-10.
The team traveled to Robert C. Byrd on Monday to play in a tri-match also featuring Morgantown High, then will visit Philip Barbour on Wednesday in a quad match with Buckhannon-Upshur and Morgantown.
As the number one seed in the upcoming Sectional Tournament hosted by Paden City, Tyler Consolidated will play the winner of the number four seed vs. the number five seed match, beginning at approximately 7 p.m. on November 4.
