Lady Knights take on Lady Huskies at Burbacher Field
The Lady Knight soccer team at Tyler Consolidated High School played only one game last week, at home on Saturday against an experienced North Marion team.
The Lady Huskies came into the game with an 8-2 record and handed the Silver the 5-0 loss.
“They were a well coached, athletic, experienced team,” said Lady Knight head coach, Matt Kinnard. “The majority of them have been playing soccer from the youth leagues, through middle school and up.”
“We played well though, throughout the majority of the game. We did some things well, but let ourselves down in a few other places.”
“We lost 50 percent of the balls we went after, and we have to do better than that.”
The Lady Knights gave up three goals in the first half and held North Marion to two scores in the second.
In total, the Knights only took four shots on goal while North Marion took 37 shots at the Knight goal, but only five got through. Senior keeper for the Silver, Sophie Kinnard, had 18 saves in goal and freshman Vanessa Templeton had 14.
“We need to play smarter and our defense needs to be quicker,” the coach said.
“We need to work on controlling the ball and finishing better. It’s coming along, it’s just going to take time. The girls are working hard and working together and learning to love the game. Our program has grown by giant steps and we’re improving every single week.”
The Lady Knights will play at home at Burbacher Field on Sept. 26 against Indian Creek at 5 p.m.
