Ladies showing improvement
While their effort on the field and at practice is as good as any team in any program, the Lady Knight varsity soccer team at Tyler Consolidated is still feeling growing pains and still looking for their first win of the season.
“Fundamentally, we’re still learning,” said head coach of the Lady Knights, Matt Kinnard. “We’re continuing to improve with each game, and we’re continuing to learn as we go, so it’s frustrating for the girls when we don’t win. But we are improving.”
The Lady Knights faced off with two teams this week, falling to both without adding a score on their side of the scoreboard.
On Sept. 7 the Knights hosted the Lady Riders of Weir and were defeated by the more experienced team, 6-0.
Playing well in the first half, the Ladies wearing the Silver and Black were only down by two points. The second half proved to be their downfall however as the visitors added four more goals to take the win.
“We attacked and put pressure on them,” said the coach. “But we pushed off the ball to much and it cost us.”
The team fell to Steubenville on Sept. 5, 3-0 in an aggressive game that could have went either way.
“We didn’t play aggressive enough against them,” Kinnard said. “We made more mental mistakes than we should have and didn’t capitalize on the many opportunities we had.”
“All we can do is keep trying, keep playing and keep improving. We have from now to October to keep getting better and that’s what we’re going to do every game. We’ll only continue to get better if we keep on learning the game of soccer.” The Lady Knights will host Ravenswood at Burgbacher Field on Saturday at 11 a.m.
