The Middle School League Track championships were held on May 2 in New Martinsville with both Tyler Consolidated Middle School and Paden City Jr. High teams participating.

The young Lady Knights of Tyler Consolidated took the overall team championship in the girls’ division with 208 points. New Martinsville School placed second with 76 points, followed by Paden City with 65; Shortline, 48; Long Drain, 29 and River, 24.

In the boys team division, the New Martinsville School team placed first overall with 126 team points, followed by River, scoring 106; Paden City, 101; Tyler Consolidated, 90; Short Line, 24; and Long Drain, 16.

With this meet being the last of the season for the Middle School teams, several of these young athletes will continue their competition career at the high school level of their respective schools next year as freshmen. The Middle School programs allowed early fundamental training for the athletes, giving them a head start should they choose to be part of their high school teams.
