Lady Green hopes to advance

Softball Sectionals began on Tuesday for the Paden City Lady Wildcats who hope to play spoiler in their Section in order to get a berth at the Regional tournament.

The Lady Wildcats Kelsey Loy blasted a solo home run at the plate and struck out four from the circle, but it wasn’t enough for Paden City to get by the Lady Dragons 10-5 Friday, April 26 at Paden City Park.

Both teams scored two-runs in the first and third frames, but the Lady Dragons took advantage of five Wildcat errors to gain the nod.

Taylor Cosper smacked a pair of doubles, while Hannah Stanley drove home a run on a single, and Myah Charkawi an RBI.

The Ladies in Green and White swept Jefferson Christian in a double-header, 10-0 and 7-0 April 27 in Paden City.

Amber Neff won both games from the hill. She struck out three in both games, while Mallory Estel, Cosper and Graeson Baker tossed some innings in relief.

Charkawi had the big bat in game one with four singles and two RBIs, while Cosper plated a run with a pair of doubles in game two to lead the ‘Cats in their ninth and tenth victories of the season.

Stanley followed Charkawi in game one with a double and two singles, while Tori Anderson, Katie Shreves and Nikki Little each contributed a pair of base hits.Cosper doubled and Loy smacked a two-run single.

In the nitecap, Anderson followed Cosper with a pair of RBI singles, while Stanley, Little and Baker each knocking in runs with singles.

The Lady Wildcats began double elimination Sectional play on Tuesday at Magnolia taking on the Lady Blue Eagles. The loser of this game will play Cameron at Magnolia on Wednesday.
