With a roster full of youth and inexperience, first year head coach at Tyler Consolidated, Rob Jones, and team have suffered some growing pains this year. Down, but never out, the Silver Knights had their work cut out for them last week, taking on some tough competition in Williamstown and Parkersburg Catholic.

On April 23 at Williamstown, the Knights were downed by the Yellow Jackets, 15-4. The loss went to Knight pitcher, Evan Davis. At the plate, Dillon Glover and Jordan Baker each singled on the day for Consolidated.

The Knights played host to Parkersburg Catholic on April 26, and felt the sting of defeat again this season as the Crusaders took the win, 14-3.

Nathan Heintzman was charged with the loss on the mound.

Offensively, senior Koty Martin was on his game hitting two singles, scoring a run and collecting an RBI. Davis also singled for an RBI.

The Sectional Tournament will be held at Tyler Consolidated next week with Tyler, Valley and St. Marys competing for the chance to advance to Regionals. On May 6, the Knights will take on Valley. The loser of this first game will face-off with Cameron in the double elimination tournament.

Paden City head coach Brent Croasmun and his nine charges have found themselves behind the eight-ball more than once this season, but have continued to gain experience. Last week the Wildcats found themselves seeded fourth in the class A OVAC tournament, and look to surprise a few people come post season play.

Last week the ‘Cats faced off with the Bishops of Bishop Donahue twice, once in a regular season game, the other in an OVAC match-up.

On April 24 Paden City fell to the Bishops at Paden City Park, 15-8.

Sophomore Zach Heasley took the loss as the pitcher, walking four batters in one inning. Levi Meadows came on in relief to finish out six innings, walking two and striking out three.

At the plate, Craig Allen singled twice; Luke Cooper collected an RBI on four hits; Michael Wilcox brought home two runs; and Meadows, Heasley, Logan Carroll and Deven Price each singled.

In the OVAC tournament, the ‘Cats faced the Bishops again, this time going down 15-0.

Isaac Hall took the loss on the mound with five strike outs and two walks. Cooper came on in relief, striking out three.

This week the Wildcats will play at Hundred on May 2 and at St. Johns on May 3.

The double elimination Sectional tournament will begin on Cameron on May 6 with Paden City, Magnolia and Cameron. Paden City will take on Cameron in the first game.
