Softball teams meet head to head in PC

Before Sectionals begin next week for West Virginia High School softball teams, Paden City and Tyler Consolidated’s ladies matched up against each other for a regular season game. On April 17 at Paden City, the Lady Knights and Wildcats meant business.

In the first game of the double header, Paden City took the edge with a four-run second inning to get the 10-5 win over the Silver and Black.

Paden City scored 10 runs on 17 hits and had one error while Tyler Consolidated had five runs on five hits, with an error.

Devinn Moore controlled the pitcher’s position for the Silver Ladies, striking out three Paden City batters. Martina Parrish completed the battery.

At the plate, Alex Bubenchik singled to score two runners; Parrish doubled for an RBI; and Smith hit two singles.

For the Lady Wildcats, Kelsey Loy worked the circle, striking out six and walking three batters with Graeson Baker completing the battery.

Offensively for the ‘Cats, Taylor Cosper singled and doubled to earn an RBI; Megan Pierce hit two singles for an RBI; Hannah Stanley placed three singles and hit a double to score a runner; Myah Charkawi singled twice and doubled for two RBI’s; Tori Anderson came through with three singles to score two runners; Baker contributed a pair of singles; and Amber Neff singled to plate two runners.

After going up 2-0 in the first inning, the Lady Knights allowed their hosts to score 11 runs in the second inning and 10 in the third to run away with the 21-2 win.

Jasmine Moore pitched one strike out and two walks in the effort for Consolidated.

For Paden City, Loy again controlled the first position, walking one batter and striking out two.

Getting hits on the day for the home team were: Cosper, who hit a home run and a single to collect four RBIs; Pierce, hitting a single for an RBI; Stanley, one single, one RBI; Kaie Shreves, one single, two RBIs; Charkawi, three singles, three RBIs; Loy, three singles, one RBI; Anderson, two singles, a triple to score three; Baker, a single and double to earn four RBIs; Neff, one single, one double, two RBIs; and Mallory Estel singled for an RBI.

On April 15, the Lady Wildcats traveled to Pine Grove to take on the Valley Lumber Jills, and managed to get the win after four innings, 11-1.

Loy worked the circle for the Green and White, striking out six Valley batters and walking one. Graeson Baker completed the battery.

Offensively, Cosper singled twice and had one RBI; Pierce hit a pair of singles for an RBI; Stanley singled and brought a runner home; Anderson hit two singles and doubled for an RBI; and Baker singled twice and earned an RBI.

The Knights will host River on April 24 and play for LKC placement at the end of the week. The Wildcats will travel to Williamstown on April 24 and to Jefferson County Christian on April 27.
