Lady Knights are recognized

The West Virginia High School boys and girls soccer seasons finished up in December and post season awards have been announced. Several members of the Tyler Consolidated High School’s Lady Knight varsity soccer team were recognized with post season accolades, including one member receiving the prestigious goal-keeper of the year award.

The West Virginia High School Soccer Coaches Association announced their all-state and major award winner selections with Lady Knight, Sophie Kinnard named as the class A/AA goal keeper of the year. Kinnard, a junior, was also named to the first team as a goalie.

Consolidated’s Victoria Sheperd was named to the first team as a midfielder and Katelynn Smith was a first team selection on defense. Kaylee Hartsfield and Haleigh Smith received honorable mention awards.

Kinnard was also recognized by the Wheeling Intelligencer in being selected to the first team All-Valley team as well as first team All-OVAC.

Victoria Shepherd and Katelyn Smith were selected to the second team All-Valley.

The Lady Knights ended the 2012 season with not as many wins as they would have liked, but will return to the field of play in August with much experience to build on.
