Ladies finish regular season play

Tyler Consolidated and Paden City High School girls basketball teams will finish their regular seasons this week and will begin Sectional play this weekend. Though both teams have dealt with trials and tribulations of various sorts this season, play-offs are at hand, and fans of the game are hoping to see teamwork pay off by advancing to the next level of play.

Lady Wildcats

With both teams struggling to get the upper hand in the first period of play at Paden City on Feb. 7, the Lady Wildcats pulled their game together in the second and played solid for the remainder of the contest to get the win over Cameron, 50-42.

Senior night was celebrated prior to the game with seniors Lynnsie Parsons, Logan Cosper, Lynah Stanley, and Kelsey Loy and their families, honored by Paden City High School.

Freshman Cydney Blatt led all Wildcat scorers in the game with 12 points. She also brought down seven rebounds, had three steals and blocked a shot. Logan Cosper added 11 points and had five rebounds; Taylor Cosper, six points, five rebounds, five steals; Parsons had five points, two rebounds; Kayla Barker scored four points, had two steals and one assist; Lynah Stanley, four points, three rebounds, one block, one assist.

Myah Charkawi scored four points, had seven rebounds, one blocked shot, three steals and one assist; Hannah Stanley, three points, two rebounds, one steal; Kayla Hizer, one point, three rebounds, one steal; and Loy had four rebounds, two steals and two assists.

The ‘Cats are 9-11 on the season at this point.

Lady Knights

The Lady Knights of Tyler Consolidated have put together some wins here at the end of their season to add to their win/loss record for the year. Their work, however, is not finished. The team will face their toughest contests this weekend at Sectionals.

Last week the Ladies in Silver faced off with Calhoun County, taking the win over the Red, 59-20.

Junior Sophie Kinnard led the way at the basket for Consolidated, scoring 18 points. Senior Torrye Cline contributed 14 points to the cause; Sydney Reed had nine points; Ariel Fish, five; Megan Carpenter, three; and Allison Wable, Hillary Casteel, Sydney Yoho, Katie Gogan, and Hannah Casteel added two points apiece in the win.

On Monday, the Lady Knights traveled to Pine Grove to take on the Valley Lumber Jills, returning home to Tyler County with the 70-48 win.

Senior Allison Wable led the way in scoring for the Silver and Black in the game with 17 points. Cline scored 16; Kinnard, 15; Reed, 12; Carpenter, five; Hilary Casteel, two; Yoho, two; and Fish, one point.

The Lady Knights were scheduled to host Bishop Donahue on Feb. 12 at home, and will begin Sectionals on Saturday.

The West Virginia Region I, Section II girls basketball tournament will take place at Doddridge County High School, Feb. 16-22. Game times and opponents are as follows: Feb. 16, Trinity vs. Valley at 1 p.m.; Tyler Consolidated vs. Paden City at 2:30 p.m.; Feb. 19, St. Marys vs. winner of Tyler and Paden City at 6 p.m.; Clay-Battelle vs winner of Trinity and Valley at 7:30 p.m. The championship game is scheduled for Feb. 22 at 7 p.m.
