Tyler Consolidated’s varsity wrestlers competed a few times last week, both at home and on the road, honing their skills for the upcoming Regional in order to qualify for states.

On Jan. 30 the team hosted Bishop Donahue and Ritchie County in a triangular at home, with several of the wrestlers not only gaining experience, but wins for their individual records.

The team competed at the 50th annual Little Kanawha Conference Wrestling Championships held at Wirt County on Feb. 3. Though the Silver Knights did not come away with a champion, more than one wrestler gained wins in order to put team points on the scoreboard.

Wirt County, with 190.5 points, ran away with the overall LKC championship. Clay County placed second with 180.50 points, followed by Calhoun County, 122.50; Williams-town, 118; Braxton County, 98.50; Ritchie County, 90.50; Roane County, 90; St. Marys, 60; Ravenswood, 19; Tyler Consolidated, eight points; and South Harrison, who failed to score.

The Silver Knight wrestlers will be in action again before seasons end at a tournament on Feb. 9 in Grafton.
