Knights win back-to-back OVAC Cheer Championships
The WesBanco Arena in Wheeling was the place to be on Saturday for cheerleaders and fans of the sport of cheerleading itself for the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference Cheerleading Championships. Five divisions of cheerleading squads, representing 29 schools, performed for the large crowd on hand with the Silver Knight cheerleaders of Tyler Consolidated winning their second straight OVAC title in the class AAA division.
The Knights competed in the same division as Bellaire, Linsly, Magnolia, Monroe Central and River, coming out on top with a near perfect routine. Linsly placed second behind the Silver and Black and the Magnolia squad placed third.
At the OVAC competition, cheerleading squads were judged on cheers, dances and sideline cheers within a three-minute time period. Partner stunts, pyramids, mounts etc. were not permitted.
