‘Cats rack up 10th win of ‘13 season

As long as the weather cooperates, the next few weeks will see the Paden City Wildcat boys basketball team keeping busy with regular season games as well as conference and tournament games on their schedules.

The ‘Cats traveled to McMechen on Jan. 22 to take on Bishop Donahue, but came away disappointed with the 76-36 loss with the Bishops holding the Wildcats to single digits in both the second and fourth quarters to take the win.

Sophomore Kennedy Cain led all Wildcat scorers in the game with 14 points, five rebounds; one steal, two assists. Zach Heasley chipped in 12 points, had eight rebounds, one steal; Craig Allen, three points, one rebound; Deven Price, three points, one rebound; Logan Carroll, two points, one rebound; Drew Bidwell, one point, one rebound, five assists; Brandon Cross, one point; and Levi Meadows, two rebounds, one steal.

On Monday, a strong fourth period helped the ‘Cats pull out the win over Harman in Paden City, 67-46 in the first round of the Hometown Invitational Tournament. After a pretty even first period, Fred King’s team stepped up their play in the second to take a determined lead in the game at the half, 31-23, on their way to the win.

Sophomore Zach Heasley turned in the most points of any player for the Green and White in the game with 21. He brought down nine rebounds, blocked a shot, had five assists and two steals as well. Luke Cooper contributed 18 points against Harman and had eight boards; Cain scored 16 points, had nine rebounds, three assists; Cross, six points, one steal, one assist; Allen, two points; Pyles, two points, three rebounds; and Drew Bidwell added two points, had four rebounds, two steals and four assists.

The win over Harman put the ‘Cats record at 10-4 on the year.

Paden City is scheduled for another H.I.T. appearance on Feb. 1 and will host Beallsville on Feb. 5.
