‘Cats fall to Bishops, 79-61
The Paden City boys basketball team has seen some good competition of late, which is a good thing as they prepare to participate in the Hometown Invitational Tournament next week.
The Green and White played host to the Bishops of Bishop Donahue on Jan. 8 with the McMechen team taking the win, 79-61.
The ‘Cats started off strong, putting 20 points on the scoreboard while holding the Bishops to 16. In the second period though, Donahue came out shooting for the net to outscore the home team, 21-13 and take the lead at the half, 37-33.
A pretty even third period had the two teams close, but Bishop stepped it up in the last stanza of the day to take the win, 79-61.
Three Wildcats scored in double digits for the game: Kennedy Cain with 21; Zach Heasley with 19; and Luke Cooper with 10.
Cain pulled down four rebounds in the contest while Heasley hauled in four and Cooper double/doubled in the game with 13. Cain also was credited with four assists; Heasley, one assist and two steals; and Cooper, one assist and a steal.
Brandon Cross contributed five points and had one steal; Drew Bidwell scored four, had four assists, three rebounds.
Craig Allen scored two points and had one assist; and Deven Price was credited with one assist.

Paden City will play again on Jan. 22 at Bishop Donahue and will begin Hometown Invitational Tournament play on Feb. 1.
