Paden City’s Lady Wildcat varsity basketball team has taken one of the last three contests they have participated in. The team, playing two of the last three games at home at Bob Burton Gymnasium, looks to improve their record in the next few weeks including participating in the Hometown Invitational Tournament.

On Dec. 31 at Bellaire St. John Central, the Irish used a 15-3 third quarter run to take out Paden City, 54-36.

St. John’s took a 18-11 advantage after one period of play and pushed their lead to 34-21 at the break before the hosts put the game away in the third period.

Logan Cosper paced the Lady ‘Cats with nine points and six rebounds, while Myah Charkawi followed with eight markers, that included the ‘Cats’ only triple of the afternoon.

In addition, Cydney Blatt contributed six points, while Taylor Cosper added four points and four assists. Teammate Kayla Hizer also tallied four points, while Lynnsie Parson tacked on a three spot, and Lynah Stanley scored two.

It was junior Myah Charkawi leading all Lady Wildcat scorers in the next game with 18 points to lead Paden City to an easy 66-33 victory over East Richland, Jan. 4 at home.

The Green and White raced out to a 22-10 lead after one period of play and never looked back. The Paden City stifling defense held Richland to only a bucket in the second period, while putting up 13 markers to grab a 35-12 advantage at the break.

In the third period, the Lady ‘Cats were clicking on all cylinders once more, scoring 18 markers, while their defense held Richland to four buckets.

Charkawi led a 14-steal attack with four, while Logan Cosper took away three. As a team, the Wildcats made 14 assists, with Taylor Cosper leading the way with four, while Logan Cosper and Hannah Stanley each recorded three.

Ten Lady ‘Cats dented the Bob Burton Gymnasium scoreboard Jan. 5, but it wasn’t enough as Bellaire St John took care of business, beating Paden City 65-36.

St. John wasted little time, gaining a 23-7 advantage after one period and cruized the rest of the way. The Lady ‘Cats responded with a nice showing in the second and third periods. But, the Lady Irish would put the exclamation point with a 19-8 fourth period to gain the nod.

Logan Cosper and Kayla Hizer each paced the Wildcats with seven points, while Taylor Cosper went bombs away with a pair of baskets from beyond the arc for six points.

In addition, Lynnsie Parsons and Hannah Stanley each recorded four markers, while Myah Charkawi was held to a season-low three points. Darien Ritchie and Cydney Blatt each tacked on a deuce, while Kayla Barker and Kelsey Loy each swished a free throw.

Defensively, Charkawi made four steals and hauled in a team-high eight rebounds, while Taylor Cosper grabbed five., and dished out four assists.

The number one seeded Lady ‘Cats will host Union Grant in the first annual girls Hometown Invitational Tournament at 6 p.m. on Jan. 12.
