Roundball seasons continue
Paden City and Tyler Consolidated boys basketball teams have each seen a sparse scheduling of games here in the early part of the season, with the ‘Cats playing four to date, and the Knights, five. The ‘Cats have yet to suffer a loss while the Knights have come out the winner in two of their five contests.
Paden City
The Wildcats traveled to East Richland on Dec. 14, and took the game in a big way by a score of 62-18. The win was the fourth in a row for the Green and White this season.
The ‘Cats ended the first period of play in the lead 11-3, and lengthened that lead to 30-7 to take a healthy lead and eventually the win.
Drew Bidwell led all scorers in the game with 13 points. He also had contributed with two assists, three rebounds and a steal; Kennedy Cain had 12 points, two assists, eight boards and two steals; Zach Heasley scored 10 points, four assists, one rebound, three steals; Brandon Cross had six points, four rebounds and two steals; Levi Meadows, five points, one assist and two rebounds; Luke Cooper, five points, 11 rebounds and a steal; Logan Carroll, four points, four rebounds; Kane Pyles, four points, two rebounds and a steal; and Deven Price, three points, two rebounds and one steal.
The Wildcats continued their season on Dec. 18 when they played host to the Hundred Hornets at Bob Burton Gymnasium. The team will host Harman at 1:30 p.m. on Dec. 22.
Silver Knights
A sluggish first period and a stalled third, hindered the Silver Knights on Dec. 11 at Williamstown, and eventually cost them the win, 73-65.
The Knights found themselves behind at the end of the first quarter, 22-8 with the Yellow Jackets making good on almost every opportunity to score. In the second the Silver came on strong, outscoring their hosts 20-18, but still found themselves trailing at the half, 40-28. Though they put together a fine fourth quarter and added 26 points to their side of the scoreboard, the Consolidated team came away with the loss.
Senior Scott Sole led the team in scoring with 21 points. Sole also pulled down three rebounds, had two assists and one steal. Dylan Romine added 20 points to the Knight score, grabbed four rebounds, had five assists, eight steals and one block; Tim Edwards scored 12 points, had 10 rebounds, and one assist; Dylan Reynolds, six points, four rebounds, eight assists and one steal; Drew Casey, four points four two rebounds; Randall Eastham, two points, six rebounds, two steals and four blocks; Swen Scheidemantel pulled down one rebound; Cole Kocher brought down four rebounds and had three assists; Isaiah Casenelli was credited with one assist.
On Dec. 14 the Knights played host to the Crusaders of Parkersburg Catholic and fell to their visitors, 74-66.
The contest got heated quickly with the two teams playing to a 31-23 end of the first half score with the Silver trailing. Catholic plodded their way to outscore the Knights in the third, 22-14, and even though they fell behind in putting points on the board in the fourth, the Crusaders took the game.
Romine led all Knight scorers in the game with 20 points. He also had four rebounds, one assist, three steals and a block. Darren Heintzman totaled 11 points in the game, grabbed seven rebounds, had one assist and blocked four shots; Casey scored nine, and had three boards; Kocher contributed eight points, had five rebounds and four assists; Reynolds added six points, had three rebounds, nine assists; Sole, six points, five rebounds, one steal; Edwards, four points, five rebounds, one assist and one block; Eastham, two points, one rebound three blocks; Casenelli, one rebound, one steal.
The Silver Knights played at St. Marys on Tuesday and will see action at Doddridge on Dec. 21. The team will travel to New Martinsville on Dec. 28 to take on the Blue Eagles.
