Soccer team wins over WC
Already pocketing several wins in the early part of their season, the Silver Knight boys soccer team of Tyler Consolidated are finding themselves at the “meat” of their schedule in the next week or so, taking on some high caliber teams.
On Aug. 28 the Silver Knights traveled to St. Clairsville to take on the Red Devils, falling to their hosts 4-1.
“We just came out flat,” said head coach of the Silver, Scott Wall. “I don’t know if it was playing on turf, or the bus ride, or what, but we didn’t play up to our potential. It wasn’t a matter of them beating us, it was more of us beating ourselves in this game. No matter who we play, or where, we’ve got to give it our best out on the field. I think we forgot about that.”
Junior Matthew Goudy scored the only Knight goal in the game off a Scott Sole assist.
Goal keeper, Nathan Heintzman, had nine saves.
“It was disappointing,” Wall said. “But if anything good can come of it, this game showed us where our weaknesses lie.”
Aug. 30 found the Silver Knights taking on the Maroon Knights at Wheeling Central, bouncing back to their winning ways with the 8-1 win.
“There were so many time mix ups with this game, I’m just glad to get it over with,” the coach said. “By the time we took the field it was 7:05, and we felt like we were playing catch-up all night. We were losing daylight quickly. I told the boys that we needed to score early and often, and that’s exactly what happened.”
In the 40 minute first half, Consolidated scored seven goals; in the eight minutes played in the second half before the game was called, the team added another to take the game, 8-1.
Scoring came courtesy of: Mert Coscun, three goals; Dylan Romine, four goals; Dylan Reynolds, two assists; and Goudy, one assist.
Heintzman had one save in goal.
“We’re working our way towards the right direction,” Wall said. “This coming week is going to be a tough one, it will measure our mettle. We just have to constantly remind ourselves to take it one game at a time, and do our best every time out.”
The Silver Knights will play at Weir on Tuesday, Linsly on Thursdsay and Oak Glen on Saturday.
