Racing series to begin with 5K
The Ohio River Racing series featuring the Paden City Foundation 5K run/walk and the Jim Quinet Memorial 5K run/walk are scheduled to begin in June. This is the second year for these races, which proved to be very successful in 2011.
These two races are joining forces to offer a racing series in the local area. Series points will be awarded to top finishers in each race, the run and walk, with the Series champions awarded at the Jim Quinet Memorial on July 28.
The purpose of these races is to promote healthy lifestyles and create opportunities for local residents and visitors to partake in activities that will help to make them healthier individuals and our community a healthier place to live. These are competitive races for runners and walkers, but are also races for recreational running and walking and a fund-raising effort for the Paden City Foundation.
The Paden City Foundation 5K run and walk will be held in Paden City on June 2 with the start time scheduled for 9 a.m.
This event is organized by the Paden City Foundation, Inc., and will benefit the Paden City Foundation Scholarship Program (Hope and Owen McKay Memorial Scholarship), The Paden City Museum and Cultural Center and the Cornerstone Project, and is sponsored by WesBanco, Healthy Alliance, RAM Financial Services, and TME Lights Your Way.
Official race timing services will be provided by the River City Runners and Walkers club in Parkersburg
The entry fee is $10 per entrant with T-shirts guaranteed to the first 100 paid entrants.
Awards will include trophies to first, second and third overall male and female runners and walkers; medals awarded to first, second and third male and female runners and walkers in each age division.
Age divisions will be classified in the following categories: 0-9 years; 10-19 years; 20-29 years; 30-39 years; 40-49 years; 50-59 years; 60-69 years and 70 years of age and above.
A $10 fee will be requested of each participant in the run and walk.
The race course has been designed to be almost entirely flat and to avoid 4th Ave and through traffic, with race volunteers stationed at each intersection to slow traffic, direct runners and walkers and provide safety.
