Playing between the storms and rain drops here in the early Spring, local baseball teams have found ways to keep the game going.

Paden City

The Paden City Wildcat baseball team has seen their share of ups and downs so far this season, but garnered a win last week. The team stands at 1-6 thus far in the season, and has a full schedule of games to get in, in the next few weeks.

On March 26 the Wildcats took on Bishop Donahue at home, falling to the Bishops, 19-3.

Sophomore Kyle Postlethwait pitched for the ‘Cats, walking one and striking out one.

Offensively, Jared Stewart singled and drove in one run and Kyle Staton collected an RBI.

At Tyler Consolidated the Green and White faced off against the Silver and Black on March 28, putting on a good offensive effort, and grabbed their first win of the season with a steady pace on the diamond, 12-8.

The ‘Cats plated four runners in the both the first and second innings to get a jump on the home team, and held on for the win.

Postlethwait again, faced the opposition from the mound, walking three and striking out seven Knight batters.

Senior Jay Billiter singled twice in the effort, collecting one RBI; Staton singled and doubled for one RBI; Stewart singled and doubled for an RBI; Matt Barker hit two singles for three RBI’s; Zach Heasley singled and double to drive home two runs; and Levi Meadows singled in the contest.

On March 29 at Hundred, the Wildcats again had a great offensive effort, but were edged out by the Hornets, 12-11.

Billiter controlled the mound for the majority of the game for the Green, taking the loss with six walks and 10 strike outs. Heasley pitched three innings, walking one and striking out four.

Billiter helped his own effort with one single and one RBI; Barker singled to plate one runner; Heasley hit two singles and one double to be credited with three RBI’s; and Meadows smacked two singles for one RBI.

Against Beallsville on March 30, the ‘Cats fell 9-3. On the mound, Matt Barker walked six and struck out 10 batters in the loss. He also singled in the effort.

Billiter hit two singles for one RBI; Craig Allen, singled and Postlethwait hit one Paden City runner in.

Paden City will play at home on April 4 at 5 p.m. when they host St. Johns. On April 7 the team will travel to Frontier for a double header at noon; and will Travel to Cameron on April 9.

Tyler Consolidated

The Silver Knight baseball team has seen the best and worst the game of baseball has to offer in a weeks time, being on the sad end of a devastating loss and gaining two wins in a row in a big way later in the week.

The Knights played host to the Paden City Wildcats on March 28, allowing the ‘Cats to secure their first win of the season by the score of 12-8. Paden City jumped out to an 8-1 lead after two innings, leaving the Silver to dig out of the deficit.

The Knights scored eight runs on 11 hits and committed five errors in the game.

Senior Dalton Wells controlled the mound for the Silver, walking five and striking out 11 Paden City batters.

Offensively, Evan Davis hit two singles and brought home a runner; Koty Martin singled and doubled for two RBI’s; Dalton Wells singled twice and collected one RBI; Isaac Michael singled and doubled for two RBI’s; Dakota Allen singled to plate a runner; Bobby Moore singled and collected one RBI; and Dalton Parsons hit a one baser.

At Doddridge on March 29, the Silver found themselves behind again after the first four innings, 11-1, which turned out to be the final score when all was said and done.

Dalton Parsons was the only Knight to connect with his bat, doubling in the first inning.

On the mound for Consolidated, Koty Martin threw two strike outs and one walk; and Justin Carpenter, walked three and struck out two.

Playing host to Williamstown at home on March 30, the Silver Knights were devastated by the Jackets, 40-2.

Williamstown scored 22 points after three innings and the Knights scored their two runs in the second and third.

The Knights used three pitchers in the game: Martin, who walked one and struck out two; Parsons, who walked six and struck out three; and Tyler Knox, who walked nine and struck out one.

Martin hit two singles in the game and Davis hit one, gaining one RBI. Michael also collected an RBI.

Hosting a double header with Hundred on March 31, the Silver Knights were successful in both games, 14-4 and 23-5.

In the first game, Consolidated scored runs in every inning of the game to get the win off the bats of: Martin who hit two singles and one double to collect three RBI’s; Davis, two singles, two RBI’s; Cecil Spenser, one single; Wells, one single, one double, two RBI’s; Dakota Allen, one single, one RBI; Carpenter, one single, three RBI’s; Parsons, one single one double for two RBI’s; and Braxtin Brown earned one RBI.

Senior Dalton Wells held down the first position for the Knights in the first game, throwing 11 strike outs and walking one.

In the second game with the Hornets, both teams started off well with the Knights leading by one, 5-4 after the first. In the second inning, the home team scored five runs to take a determined lead in the game, on their way to the 23-5 win.

Martin threw a fine game from the mound, striking out eight Hornet batters.

Offensively, Davis hit two singles and scored two runners; Wells hit both a double and a single for two RBI’s; Allen hit two singles and collected two RBI’s; Martin singled and double to bring home three; Michael, two singles, one RBI; Parsons, one single, one double, one RBI; Carpenter, one single, two RBI’s; and David Litten earned two RBI’s.

Tyler Consolidated will play again on April 5 at St. Marys for a 1 p.m. game. On April 10 the team will host a double header with Calhoun County with the first game to begin at 4 p.m.
