By Staff | Mar 28, 2012

Off to a stuttering start in the 2012 baseball season, the Silver Knights played three games last week, winning one. With rebuilding being a goal of the hard ballers this year, several untried players saw action on the diamond with the team last week.

Playing at St. Marys on March 20, the Knights first outing of the year cut a notch in the loss column for the Silver, 13-3 as they fell to the Blue Devils in Pleasants County.

In six complete, St. Marys steadily added runs to the home side of the score board throughout the first four innings, putting the score at 10-1 after the Knights were able to plate a runner in the top of the fourth. Though the Silver and Black scored two runs in the sixth, the Blue Devils scored three in the bottom of the sixth to take the 13-3 win.

Offensively for the Knights, Dalton Parsons had two singles in the game for three RBI’s. Justin Carpenter scored a run and Koty Martin ran across the plate twice.

Senior Dalton Wells handled the majority of the pitching duties for Consolidated with Martin also seeing time on the mound.

On March 21 the Silver Knights played in Paden City for a well attended local game. Tyler Consolidated edged out the ‘Cats in a good match-up, 10-9.

The ‘Cats jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the second inning and added four more in the third. The Silver came on in the fourth and after a couple well placed base hits scored four quick runs to put the score at 6-4, Wildcats. A strong fourth inning saw the Knights add three runs to take the lead, 7-6.

The fifth inning saw both teams score two, followed by a scoreless sixth. Though both teams were able to score in the seventh, the Knights held on to their one run lead to get their first win of the season, 10-9.

“This was a good, close game for both of our teams,”said Knight head coach Gene Rice.

Offensively for the Silver and Black, Dalton Wells had three hits, two singles and a double, scored one run and knocked in two; Justin Carpenter swatted two singles for two RBI’s and scored one; Evan Davis singled twice to score two RBI’s; Koty Martin hit two doubles, had two RBI’s and scored twice; Dalton Parsons it two singles, scored once and brought one runner home; Dakota Allen, Tyler Highley, and Cole Kocher each scored in the game while Isaac Michael scored three times for Consolidated.

Parsons, Martin, Highley and Kocher all saw time on the mound in the game. Parson pitched four innings for the win, throwing six walks and six strike outs. Highley walked one; and Martin got the save with three innings, walking six and striking out six.

At home on March 22 the Knights fell to the Ritchie County Rebels 27-1.
