Grapplers to host Regional
Inclement weather has played a troublesome part in getting matches in for the Tyler Consolidated Silver Knight varsity wrestling team here late in the season, causing more than one cancellation.
With no regular season matches left on the schedule, the Silver Knights will host the Class A/AA Region I, Regional wrestling tournament this weekend, hoping to qualify as many wrestlers from the team as possible to go on to the state tournament.
The Regional will begin on Saturday at 10 a.m. with teams from Oak Glen, Weir, Madonna, Wheeling Central, Cameron, Magnolia, St. Marys, Williamstown, Ritchie County, Bishop Donahue, Clay-Battelle, and Parkersburg Catholic participating. Wrestling aficionado’s in the know predict more than one West Virginia State Champion will come from this mix of talented high school wrestlers.
The number of wrestlers participating generally forces a high number of matches, causing some Regional tournaments to take two days to complete. The seeding meeting early in the week deemed it not necessary in this case.
