Wildcats win over Harman at Invitational

Paden City High School boys’ varsity basketball team has been busy of late with several games scheduled and played last week. The Wildcats took one of three games, putting their season record at 4-11 on the year.

On Jan. 24 the ‘Cats played at McMechen against Bishop Donahue, winding up with the loss to the Bishops, 88-54.

Paden City fell behind in the first period of play, 31-10, and were unable to recoup their losses in order to pull out the win.

Freshman Kennedy Cain had an outstanding performance for the Green and White, securing a double-double on the night with 31 points and 12 rebounds. He also blocked three shots, had two steals and was credited with two assists.

Craig Allen scored eight points, had six rebounds, and two assists; Brandon Cross, six points, three rebounds, two steals; Zach Heasley, five points, three rebounds, two assists; Kane Pyles, two points, one rebound, one assist; Geoffrey bidwell, two points, one steal, two assists; Levi Meadows, one assist; and Drew Bidwell brought down two rebounds and had one assist.

The Wildcats took on Williamstown on Jan. 26 and gave a very good effort on the night, but fell to the larger team, 54-40.

The ‘Cats were all over this one from the get-go, holding the Yellow Jackets to only 12 points in the first period while adding 11 of their own. The Maroon and Gold pulled ahead by a nice margin in the second stanza to lead at the half, 27-16.

Though they forced their pace onto their opponents throughout the rest of the game, the Jackets steady scoring and marginal lead got them the win at the buzzer, 54-40.

Senior Geoffrey Bidwell led all Paden City scorers with 16 points. He also pulled down one rebound, and had one assist. Cain was in double digits again with 12 points. He had six rebounds, two blocked shots, two steals and one assist; Heasley scored three points, had two rebounds, and one assist; Pyles, two points, two rebounds; Brandon Cross, two points, one rebound, one assist; Drew Bidwell, two points, two rebounds, one steal, two assists; Jamie Billiter, two points, four rebounds, one assist; and Allen, one point, one rebound, one steal, and one assist.

In their first outing at the Hometown Invitational Tournament, the Wildcats played host to Harman in Paden City on Jan. 27. This one turned out to be a win for the home team as the ‘Cats turned up the heat in Bob Burton Gymnasium to take the overwhelming win, 84-44.

Four players in double digits told the story of the game for the Green and White as they led their visitors from the first few minutes of the game, and never looked back.

Freshman Zach Heasley led the way 23 points in the game. He also had four rebounds, one blocked shot, three steals, and two assists. Geoffrey Bidwell added 17 points of his own and brought down four rebounds, and stole the ball three times; senior Jamie Billiter double-doubled on the night with 18 points and 11 rebounds, one blocked shot, five steals, and three assists; and Cain upped his season scoring with 12 points, 10 rebounds, one blocked shot, three steals, and three assists.

Craig Allen added six points, had four rebounds, one blocked shot, one steal, and one assist; Drew Bidwell, five points, three rebounds, four steals, seven assists; Pyles, two points, two rebounds, three steals; Meadows, one point; and Cross, two rebounds, and one steal.

Paden City will continue their play in the Hometown Invitational Tournament on Feb. 3 and 11 and then prepare for OVAC pairings, followed by Sectional and Regional play.
