Knights prepare for OVAC
The Silver Knight wrestling team hosted a tri-meet at home on Jan. 11, welcoming St. Marys and Cameron to the Consolidated gym. With several forfeits recorded by both teams, Cameron’s wrestlers won enough matches to take the team win, 60-18, as well as the Blue Devils, 54-12.
The Knights were able to get the team win over St. Marys, 36-21, to even out the evening at home.
Head coach of the Silver, Chad Snider, said he was pleased with his wrestlers and their effort during the tri, but more will be expected of them later this week as well as for the rest of the season.
The team will be one of 40-plus schools participating in the 59th Ron Mauck Ohio Valley Athletic Conference Wrestling Tournament, Jan. 19-21, one of the largest high school wrestling tournaments in the country.
“I am excited for OVAC’s to come,” Snider said. “I think that it’s a good experience for the boys. They get to experience the competition of a “real” wrestling tournament.”
“I made many great memories at this tournament (as a high school wrestler), and I think it is a great honor to be able to wrestle in a tournament of this caliber, because the OVAC tournament draws in the best of the valley.”
“Also we will be competing with every school, not just schools in our category. For the few aggressive wrestlers on the team whom enjoy a challenge, they will get their chance to test themselves against the best. I do have high hopes for John Brosky. It’s his senior year, and it would be a great accomplishment for him to make it to Saturday. In any wrestling tournament much success comes from luck of the draw. So anything could happen.”
“This is a great opportunity for all of our great fans in Tyler County to get out of their houses and make the hour trip to the big city to get that “Wheeling Feeling”. I will look forward to seeing our loyals up there.”
After the OVAC tournament, the Knight wrestlers will begin preparation in earnest for post-season with several duals scheduled in order to gain experience. On Jan. 25 the wrestlers will host River and on Jan. 28 they will travel to River for their tournament.
