Wrestlers host tri vs Cameron
The Tyler Consolidated Silver Knight wrestlers have been able to get a few matches in the last few weeks in order to prepare for the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference wrestling tournament in Wheeling next week. Working under the direction of head coach Chad Snider the Knight wrestlers have been practicing hard and learning by experience in matches against formidable opponents.
On Jan. 7 the team traveled to Cameron to take on the Dragons in a varsity match, where eight Knights earned medals.
Getting wins on the evening against Cameron’s wrestlers for the Silver were: Jerrod Longwell, 113, 3rd place; John Brosky, 126, second place; Raphe Bailes, 138, fourth place; Hunter LeMasters, 152, fourth; Levi Henderson, 170, second place; Jay Earley, 220, fourth place; Dakota Allen, 220, second place; and Dylan George, 285, fourth place.
The Silver Knights now gear up to take part in the largest high school wrestling tournament of it’s kind on Jan. 19-21, the 59th Ron Mauck OVAC Wrestling tournament, held at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling. At least 40 teams and hundreds of wrestlers from Ohio Valley high schools will participate in the huge meet.
On Jan. 11, the Silver Knights will host teams from Cameron and St. Marys. The tri-match will begin at 6 p.m.
The middle school Knight wrestlers will be hosting a home match in the Middle School gym at the same time.
