“I was very happy with our boys’ performances,” said head coach of the Silver Knight grapplers, Chad Snider. “Everybody is improving, some quicker than others.”

“Levi Henderson is not only surprising us, but also the competitors. In every match he has wrestled he has thrown his opponent to his back in the first period. Now all we have to do is get him to finish his opponent with that initial attack. He has made a few beginner mistakes and gotten rolled through and put on his own back, which accounts for his three losses so far.”

“Dakota Allen has also came a long way since he started. He has such a low center of gravity and power that he has defeated opponents with more experience than him. He is definately a threat in the 220lb weight class. And of course, John Brosky is in his senior year returning as a state qualifier. He has been showing improvement even as a senior. I think John has the skills necessary to stand on the podium at the end of the season in Huntington.”

“I was very pleased to see that most of our wrestlers were in good cardiovascular shape and didn’t “gas” in the third period like many other teams did. This has proven to be an advantage to our guys. If they can last into the last period, then it will be to our advantage most of the time.”

Several Knight wrestlers saw some success in New Martinsville last week as they competed in a dual with Magnolia on Dec. 13.

Dual forfeits were recorded in the 106, 113, 126, and 132 weight classes. Knights winning by forfeit were John Brosky, 120; Mario Mantecon, 160; and Dakota Allen, 220.

Wins recorded in all other weight classes were as follows:

138 – Joey Kelly (Mag) def. Raph Bailes (TC) by technical fall in the third period 15-1

145- Shayne Harmon (Mag) def. Josh Ruble (TC) by fall in 1st period

152- Gage Deem (Mag) def. Darrin LeMasters (TC) by fall in 1st period

170- Levi Henderson (TC) def. Garrett Woofter (Mag) by fall in 1st period

182- Spencer Billings (TC) def. Jacob Rabel (Mag) by fall in 1st period

195- Jared Wright (Mag) def. Dustin Towney (TC) by fall in 1st period

285-Tyler Baker (Mag) def. Cecil Spencer (TC) by fall in 1st period

The Knight wrestlers will compete again on Jan. 4 at Barnesville in tri-meet and on Jan. 7 at the Cameron Tourney. Tyler Consolidated will host their next home meet on Jan. 11 when Cameron and St. Marys will come to Tyler County.
