Knight cheerleaders place third at Regionals
Tyler Consolidated High School’s Silver Knight varsity cheerleading squad competed at the West Virgini Class AA, Region I Cheerleading Championships on Saturday at Fairmont East High School.
The Silver and Black squad performed first in the competition, putting on a fine display of disciplined moves in a difficult, high energy routine, complete with mounts and transitions. The Knights were followed in order by Weir, Ritchie County, Oak Glen, Magnolia, Roane County and Point Pleasant, all performing competitive cheers and timed routines.
At the end of all performances, which were judged by a panel of certified judges, scores were tallied and first and second place winners were announced to the large crowd in attendance.
The Point Pleasant squad placed first overall with the Weir Red Riders named as runners-up.
Both of these squads will represent the Region at the West Virginia State Cheerleading Championships on Dec. 10 at the Civic Center in Charleston.
“We were very disappointed not to have won,” said head cheerleading coach at Tyler Consolidated, Stefanie Starcher.
“Assistant coach Laci Strode and I are very, very proud of them. They’ve worked so hard and I believe they performed their best out there on that floor on Saturday.”
Although they will not be representing their school and Region at the State Competition, the Knight cheerleaders will compete at the LKC Cheerleading competition on Nov. 17, and at the OVAC cheerleading competition in February.
The Silver Knight squad includes: senior – Brooke Clegg; juniors – Asia Richmond, Jessica Fiber, Logann Long and Makayla Clegg; sophomores – Shandi Long, Alex Bubenchik, Kali Mead, and Chelsea Kehrer; and freshmen – Megan Wilson, Laken Miller, Brooke Keys, and Sierra Mace.
